PARISH NEWS From Our Pastor…

With this whole virus thing, I know it’s been a roller coaster of emotions. I want you to know that I hear you in the midst of all this. Some days I feel like I really have to be careful following

all the precautions. And other days, I feel like all of this is just a bunch of baloney. We want to be welcoming, and yet the directives in place can feel exactly the opposite. It’s true that our American freedoms are being tested as well as our religious values and faith. It’s a political issue as well as a health issue. We’re in this together. The Columbus area pastors have met a few times to talk about these issues, and we stand in unity, with guidance from the Holy Spirit and the Archdiocese. In these uncertain times, we must remember that Christ is in control. The Eucharist gives us strength to endure our personal and collective crucifixion. Be patient and prudent. Respect the process. Everyone is welcome to come to Mass, unless you have COVID, been exposed to someone who has it, or you have been tested and are waiting for the results. We also want everyone to feel that the church is a safe place. Thank you for hanging in there. Focus on Jesus, and allow him to lead you through the Valley of Darkness. I pray for you daily, and you have my full support. Blessings!

PARISH OFFICE HOURS Monday—Friday 8:30 – 12:00 and 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. Everyone will be required to wear a mask into the office. The staff will also be wearing masks. Please ring the doorbell before you enter.

PARISH REGISTRATION Question: Why is it so important that we register in a parish? Isn't it good enough that we go to Mass? Answer: Registration is the official way we join a parish community. Many people think that because they attend a particular parish they automatically belong. At times, young adults who have moved away for years think they are still signed up under their parents. But membership requires signing up, formally enrolling yourself in a parish. Registration is a commitment to a communi-ty, a way to be included in the religious, social, and ministerial activities of your parish. Your registration affects the parish in many ways. Census numbers can determine how many priests are assigned to a church, what benefits and obligations the communi-ty has to the diocese, and how Masses, Confessions, and devo-tions are planned and scheduled. Registration shows you belong. It is also necessary for certain benefits, like scheduling sacraments, obtaining sponsor certifi-cates, and getting donation statements for taxes. Most important-ly, it lets the parish count on you, to call on you to assist in its mission. Registering in your parish is a statement of faith and confidence in the life and work of your parish. ©LPi

IF DAD TAKES FAITH IN GOD SERIOUSLY “If a father does not go to church, no matter how faithful his

wife’s devotions, only one child in 50 will become a regular wor-shipper. If a father does go regularly, regardless of the practice

of the mother, between two-thirds and three-quarters of their chil-dren will become churchgoers (regular and irregular). One of the reasons suggested for this distinction is that children tend to take their cues about domestic life from Mom while their conceptions of the world outside come from Dad. If Dad takes faith in God seriously then the message to their children is that God should

be taken seriously. This confirms the essential role of father as spiritual leader,

which I would argue is true fatherhood. Fathers are to love their wives as Christ loves the church, modeling the love of the Father in their most important earthly relationship. Fathers are to care

for their children as our Father in heaven cares for us and finally, fathers play a primary role in teaching their children the truth

about reality. It is the father who should instruct his children in their understanding of the world from a consciously and informed Christian worldview. It is the father who is essential for sending

his children forth with a biblical view of reality and a faith in Jesus Christ that is rooted in solid understanding.

It is time for fathers to return to honorable manhood and recon-sider their priorities and realign them with God’s commands,

decrees, and laws, teaching these things to your children “when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, when you

lie down, and when you rise” (Deuteronomy 6:7).” Have a Happy Father’s Day!
