Friday 12th - Sunday 21st September

Page 2: The Twentieth Berthon Collection

The TWeNTIeTh ColleCTIoN makes us all feel very old, as our

Collection event is now becoming something of an institution. When we held

the first Collection, we wanted to gather the best of the brokerage market at

Berthon concurrent with the Southampton Boat Show.

Every year the Collection has a theme and this year we have decided to hang

our hat on the iconic shape of the Nautilus marine mollusk: Nautilus is taken

from the greek – ναυτίλος meaning sailor. This is the common name of the

pelagic marine mollusks of the Nautilidae, cephalopod family. It is part of the

super family Nautilaceae and is also closely related to the sub family Nautilina.

There are 6 living species in 2 genera and the type is the genus Nautilus.

Although it is specifically referred to as Nautilus popilius, any member of the

Nautilidae species can be referred to as chambered nautilus.

Of course this iconic shell has also been made famous by some extraordinary

ships which have carried its moniker –

There have been no less than 9 British warships between 1762 and

1913 as well as a submarine

The Spanish ship commanded by Fernando Villaamil that completed a

circumnavigation form 1892 to 1894

An exploration submarine commanded by Captain Sir Hubert Wilkins

who made an unsuccessful attempt to make passage beneath the

Arctic sea ice to the North Pole in 1931

The fictional ship NAUTILUS from Jules Verne’s novels `Twenty Thousand

Leagues Under the Sea’ (1870) and `The Mysterious Island’ (1874)

Of course, this list could be longer and I am sure that all of us will have

come across a NAUTILUS, large or small, during our travels. An iconic and

handsome name – rather like our 2014 Berthon Collection fleet.

The TWeNTIeTh ColleCTIoN – the griff

The Berthon Collection is held at Berthon in Lymington every year

concurrent with the Southampton International Boat Show –

this year the dates are Friday 12th to Sunday 21st September.

Directions to Berthon from the Boat Show can be found in the inside back left page of this catalogue – driving will take around 40 minutes and we have ample car parking at Berthon.

All the yachts in this catalogue are available to view at Berthon for the period of the Show although some may be under offer or sold. There is also a late entry list of yachts that missed the deadline for this publication. Please do contact us for this list which we will be pleased to email to you, or the list will be available on arrival at Berthon Lyminton Marina.

Berthon has 3 x 120’ viewing gantries so that access to the yachts, most of which are ashore, is easily managed.

The Collection is open from 10.00 to 18.00 every day of the Show.

Berthon brokers know the yachts that are here well and are on hand to show you the Collection.

Berthon has a large refit and repair facility and employs around 100 skilled craftsman. We can easily advise on the likely costs of repairs and refit on any of the brokerage yachts here, and we have dedicated Refit Managers to discuss the possibilities.

Page 4: The Twentieth Berthon Collection

Berthon is in the heart of Lymington which is a charming Georgian town with good eateries and a splendid High Street and Town Quay. It is a great place in which to spend a day. Ask us about local accommodation if you wish to stay overnight.

There are around 100 motor, sailing and performance yachts here for sale at the Collection between 25’ and 82’, including pre-owned Windys.

Berthon has 250 deep water berths at its marina in Lymington and it’s a great place to keep a yacht.

Berthon support the ARC and specialise in the sale of blue water cruising yachts. At Collection 20 there will be 20 blue water cruising yachts for sale that already have an ARC beneath their keels.

Berthon has offices in Newport, Rhode Island and Golfe Juan in the South of France and lists a large number of yachts internationally. We would be delighted to discuss our many other listings at Collection 20.

We look forward to seeing you in September. Our offices are open 7 days a

week so for further information about this event contact us on:

aquastar 47’ Nicara £235,000

The Aquastar kiddies produced a rough, tough seaboat, Ken Freivokh did the glamour on the styling. From 2003, immensely well sorted and versatile with acres of room both inside and out – quite a coup in a blue yacht that loves the rock ‘n’ roll. Offered at a fraction of a decent king’s ransom, comes with 480hp Volvos and stacks of electronic gismoes and of course a galley sink.

Fab aft cockpit, flybridge, 306hp Volvos for rapid take off and all for the price of a good car.
