The love for the culture first of all, we all used to write rhymes but as i started to get beer

then actually geing a chance to go to the studio stepping inside the vocal booth and

realizing it is possible, I fell in love with the whole process, from choosing beats to recording

to learning how to structure a record.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES?

All the Mcs , the lyrics the beats and watching the videos seeing the visuals as a kid growing All the Mcs , the lyrics the beats and watching the videos seeing the visuals as a kid growing

up in the late 80s and early 90s i was drawn to it. The groups the stories, buying tapes, geing

the newest mixtape. That was real.

the game like Diddy, Jay Z or 50 or Rza, you know not just doing music expanding to otherthe game like Diddy, Jay Z or 50 or Rza, you know not just doing music expanding to other

areas and being creative.

WHAT DOES 2014 LOOK LIKE FOR AL QURAN ?

Definitely looking to put out my debut album, thats my focus and making sure my team right.

Doing more shows, videos, accepting the challenges, learning more and perfecting my craft.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THE STATE OF HIP-HOP TODAY?

First you have to define hip hop because people dont know what that is actually,

you understand Hip Hop is the culture. Theres a different between musicyou understand Hip Hop is the culture. Theres a different between music

industry and hip hop just to clear that up. So hip hop is mainly underground

today to me the majority of it. Most of the commerical rap today is mainstream

, because alot of it sounds the same. There are some mainstream artist

representing and in some cases its a lack of talent being promoted like its the

truth. Hip hop has generated alot of fans worldwide and made alot of people

rich, so its right where it needs to be, because after all the bullshit play out

its time for skill and talent again.its time for skill and talent again.

ARE YOU SIGNED TO OR AFFILIATED WITH A LABEL?

Im unsigned, handling everything myself, studio time, the marketing, distribution, emails,

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO GET INTO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?

I felt that music, especially in the hip hop culture, is a very relevant

and influential way to reach the masses with self empowerment message

that will educate and make change throughout our community. A lot of

people have the same message that they want to spread. I know this. I

just feel that by being who I am and experiencing the things that I've ex

perienced, that with my approach and by me being a relevant voice thatperienced, that with my approach and by me being a relevant voice that

people can believe, that I can touch many lives and influence people to

want something in life. To be creative. To be innovative. To not sele for

less and to take a stand when the world denies us of our hopes and dreams.

WHY DO PEOPLE CALL YOU SIR DOOCH?

Dooch was a nickname given to me at birth by my mother. Years later,

I added the Sir to give my name that boldness. To show that superiority

that i posses.that i posses.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES AND WHY?

Im influenced by a lot of artist. Mainly old school artist like Bobby

Womack, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green etc. My personality has that smooth,

superbly, soulful appeal to it. I have an old soul but that music keep me

on point. I would also have to say that whole DJ Screw/ Houston movement

as well the Cash Money and No Limit camps were huge during my preteen

years. years. To me, they were the first people who made not be ashamed that I

came out the gheo. Sadly but true, they made it somewhat cool to be from

the hood.

OTHER THAN MUSIC, WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR HOBBIES AND

INTERESTS?

I hoop every now and again but my main thang is just geing at this mo

ney, taking care of my daughter, and trying to see my dream come true. All

work no play makes a dull day. Im just focused. I thought hard on this work no play makes a dull day. Im just focused. I thought hard on this

question. I even asked some more people this question and I have came to

the conclusion that people who lack opportunities really don't have any

hobbies. Well any positive ones. Thats one thing I want to see change. I

want to create opportunities so that people don't have to spend their entire

surviving to live.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR YOU BEING AN ARTIST FROM THE SOUTH?

Im excited on how the south is becoming a prominent figure in hip hop. I Im excited on how the south is becoming a prominent figure in hip hop. I

would like to see my name one day mentioned among the T.I.'s, the Jeezy's,

Underground Kingz etc. Big shout out to the whole south for doing our thang.

Really to hip hop in general because competion is what makes hip hop great.

I love it.

Quite a number of years ago Hip Hop grabbed DJ Sincere and it has yet to let go.

From staying up late night to hear the latest hip hop, to first seeing live at a party

what a real DJ does with two turntables he knew that's where he wanted to be and what

he wanted to do. Sincere started his first crew at the age of 11 with two other from his

block and began collecting records and laying the early building blocks for what would

later become Drtybsmnt Multimedia. After purchasing his first pair of turntables for his

birthday one year he began to feverishly practice his chosen craft. He emerged a few years birthday one year he began to feverishly practice his chosen craft. He emerged a few years

later ready to share his talents with the world. During this time DJ Sincere would be

introduced to Justrue Nelson who was a MC but also had DJ skills. Lile did Sincere know

that this meeting would lead to many years of music collaboration that would include

parties, classic mix tapes and many radio shows across multiple stations and platforms.

Justrue would later introduce Sincere to his brother Jahiem who was also an MC and

played guitar. The two of them would go on to work together in the studio on numerous

compositions that were shopped and received some label aention. During this time DJ compositions that were shopped and received some label aention. During this time DJ

Sincere dreamed of his own studio where he could produce and arrange compositions

whenever the inspiration struck. After this era Sincere decided to move forward with that.

He came together with some gentlemen he met at the Afrikan Poetry Theater and after a

few name changes the DRTYBSMNT was born. Due to the time and dedication that was

devoted to music production Djing took a back seat. He hooked up with Dj Johnnie Quest

whom he had long admired for this DJ skills and reputation through a mutual friend,

K-Dog and then the studio really took off. They began producing for many acts including K-Dog and then the studio really took off. They began producing for many acts including

Quests' longtime vocalist Mikey D. One of the other acts was Big Maka who laid vocals

to a couple tracks produced by Dj's Sincere and Johnny Quest that made it to the semi

finals of the Disc Makers unsigned artist contest one year and also received high marks in

Billboard's unsigned artist contest.

Page 27: The Underground Fix Magazine Issue #12

Even though the beats were hot and the studio was popping there was a desire to get back

behind the decks and on the road. Sincere either alone or with Justrue or Quest began doing

parties again in places like After Five, JT's, Chances, Club Illusions and others. After

aending a DJ Seminar, Sincere connected with DJ Exile and also DJ Vernon who was one

of the organizers of the event. He would go on to do various large engagements with both

of them. Also at this seminar he met promoter and industry insider Ben Miles. Ben also ran

a record pool which was great because after paying full price Sincere was able to get hisa record pool which was great because after paying full price Sincere was able to get his

music at a steep discount.

Now with all the hoest new music that the labels were releasing weekly readily in hand

Dj Sincere and Justrue Nelson began to release a new wave of mixtapes choosing to

distinguish themselves not just with banging music, DJ skills and killer graphics but with a

hosting style that had a more mature feel and didn't shy away from social commentary.

The first was "We Got Next", this was followed by "Madd Game", "Still Ballin" and "Flagrant

Foul". Many more followed including "Drive Time", "Phoenix" "Pure Politickin" "Bullet Foul". Many more followed including "Drive Time", "Phoenix" "Pure Politickin" "Bullet

Proof", "Put it on the Ass". and others. All of the mixtapes were hosted by Justrue. During

this time Justrue began working with AV8 records. With the mixtapes hot with the streets

and industry, parties popping in NY and out of town it was a really good time.

Next came internet radio with stints on various stations including Flava Mixtape Radio

who's owner Al Stone is a true radio professional. They would continue on Flava for two

years 5 days a week maintaining a top ten position in their time slot for their tenure on the

Pirate Radio Network of which Flava was a part. They began to syndicate the show to Pirate Radio Network of which Flava was a part. They began to syndicate the show to

different stations including 907 Jamz, The Best Damn Radio, Pro Flow Radio, Hookah Radio,

MMNetworks and many others. In the midst of this Justrue left the business and stepped

away from the industry. After the shock wore off and going through a transition period

Sincere emerged as a radio personality as well as a DJ interview numerous artists both

independent and major. He continued to produce mixtapes including "Live from New York"

hosted by Flawless DaRapChick and "Boss Chicks" hosted by Mz. Nay whom Sincere also

managed for a time. He also began to host other artists' mixtapes including the Konglomorit's managed for a time. He also began to host other artists' mixtapes including the Konglomorit's

"Love Goes Wrong" and also produced Flawless' debut mixtape "No Home Training".
