Chapter 1
Late September
It was coming to the end of September when the Englishteachers for the year 7 and 8pupils had to pick out a few
children, who they thoughtwere gifted and talented for anout of school project.
The project was for us to go toDoultan’s clay pit, saltwells
woods, Netherton. I wanted toknow more, I was curious, especially because everyonesays that things way beyond

your imagination occur there.Things you won’t believe,
obviously you and I would justsay it was a dream. My English teacher, Mrs
Aston, picked me, I wassuperised because I don’treally pay much attention in
the lesson, but I didn’t mind Isort of got my superise, that’swhat I called it. I got myconsent form filled in quickly, quicker than you can “peter
piper picked a peck of pickledpepper.” It was three to fourpages long, “I don’t know whywe honestly bother with theseforms.”I didn’t know what I would find
or what I may see or find, butthis is what encouraged meand so did my best friendChloe.

There was one little detailI had forgotten there was
about a week left until the day. From everything I canremember I realised that I’drather do a whole morning of English than three differentlessons because we had lots of
time, plenty, because for somereason I enjoy English.
For a few days, I keptthinking about the trip, whereas,I think my friends were probablygetting fed up of hearing aboutit.I just kept going on and on.The weirdest thing was that Ihad forgotten all about myfriends, it was like they had just
faded away in to thebackground.I can’t think of what they weregoing through or how they were

feeling. I was worried of what Ihad done, I think I shouldprobably try and put it right. Tostart off I went and asked foradvise, where from I realisedthat asking wasn’t as hard as Ihad imagined, it was just that Ihadn’t really asked any one
before.
We made up, and I promised Iwould go on about it any more.
One day left, after a very hard
time, I had to get organised andthis is what I needed:
Spare pair trousers,Trainers andNormal school equipment for thelast two lessons.I CAN’T WAIT UNTILTOMORROW!!

As it was 18:00 pm, there isapproximately 15 hours and 10minutes of which I need 8 hourssleep. Its now 21:00pm and I’mgoing to sleep. The clock is ticking and I amgetting excited.
8 HOURS LATER…..
The time is now 5 am and I can’twait, I had to keep calm as Iknew there were only a fewhours left.
Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock the
clock kept ticking; now I wasgetting nervous, then TING, thethree hours passed extremelyquickly and I was getting late forschool.
I finally reached school, neverthe less; I was relieved, whereas right now I had better get toform. I was happy an open

environment, which was achange from a stuffy classroom.
The clock carried on ticking,5, 4, 3, 2, 1 time to GO!

Chapter 2
The Trip.
The clock struck ten past nine inthe morning, our group left the
school premises, representingour place of education. We were showing the public thatwe were better than we say weare, we abide the school rulesand work to our schoolstandards as they get higherand higher.WE GIVE EVERYTHING WE DOMORE THAN 100%.We walked from the school site,
Simms Lane, to Saltwells Woods;I’d probably say that isn’t even1.5 miles. We were gettingcloser and closer to thedarkness the gloomy woods. I
8/7/2019 The Unexpected Discovery

started to feel strange as if Iwas being strangled, when all of a sudden I started to see dotsfloating in front of my eyes, Ithink I was hallucinating.I thought I was going to drop.To me the woods looked like thescene from act 1- scene 1 from
Macbeth. As the minutes pastthe feeling started to go away.
The weather was great, itwas lovely and warm the birdswere singing, the sun wasshining, what could anyone ask
for?It was a wonderful start. Just afew days ago it had rained sothe water hadn’t exactly beenabsorbed and so I was bound tobe muddy especially in the claypit. We went a little further untilwe reached a gate, this wasn’tany gate, and this was the gateover looking Doultan’s clay pit.
8/7/2019 The Unexpected Discovery
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/the-unexpected-discovery 13/27
The surface of the clay pitwas shining as if there weremillions of big and smalldiamonds scattered with thebeaming sun hitting them.BEAUTIFUL.I was nervous, I didn’t want togo down, but as we got closer,
the clay didn’t look likediamonds any more. It lookedlike something a dog had justthrown up, disgusting andrevolting. The mud was horribleand gooey also very slippy, I
don’t even want to think aboutslipping because knowing me Iwould probably fall flat on myface and get covered in mud.The further we went the slippierit got and yes I almost fell butno not on my face, that’s achange, but I managed to holdmy balance so I didn’t fall.

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/the-unexpected-discovery 14/27
We were all having funaway from school, we wereexploring the areas of the pit,and well it was different to whatwe were doing in school, forexample: reading holes.
Whilst we were all busytalking and getting on with our
work, none of us realised thatwe weren’t the only ones downthere.Everything was going smoothly;too smoothly something wasgoing to go wrong.
Then all of a sudden we heard ascream and then a weird andpeculiar man came from behinda wall of clay.I think he was a traveller, but hewas shaking as if he had seen aghost or something that hadobviously scared the livingdaylights out of him. We were

superised he was shaking wewere wondering what hadhappened, but he wouldn’t tell.We took it in to our own handsand went to have a look aroundwhat we had seen; now we werescared too. We all looked like wewere going to drop.
EVERYONE’S WORSTNIGHTMARE HADCOME TO LIFE…
Chapter 3
Everyone’s worstnightmare.
8/7/2019 The Unexpected Discovery
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/the-unexpected-discovery 16/27
What we had seen was everyone’sworst nightmare, it was a body.
It was very, very pale, but veryclean as if it had been polished. Thebody was fully clothed, wearing a pairof dark green pyjamas and a verywoolly dressing gown. Next to thebody were what looked like a few
personal belongings? But to me theylooked as if they had been placedthere by someone else. Thebelongings were a few photographs, some lucky charms, loose change, which I imagine he had dropped andfinally a pack of two knives of which
one was missing.I think that the body had been therefor a few days because usually on abody you can pinch a bit of skin, whereas on this body you couldn’t itwas just rock hard. Then I thought tomyself what if he was stabbed, wellwho know anything could havehappened. I looked I was startled thatthere wasn’t even a single insectthere.
8/7/2019 The Unexpected Discovery
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/the-unexpected-discovery 17/27
The person looked like someoneI had seen somewhere before, no. hewas old. I think he was sleepwalking
and he slipped, because he doesn’tlook like he’s been stabbed, hedoesn’t look like he’s been strangledeither but you’d need to get a post-mortem done to find that out.
After asking around it turns outthat he’s the man who owns thecottage on the other side. But thiswas tricky and I knew we’d mostprobably wait for results after thepost- mortem.
Finally, the police arrived andwe had to move away. Then their
forensics’ team arrived and we wereasked to write a statement of whathappened and we all knew thiswasn’t going to be easy. They eventook a sample of our finger prints. Wewere being treated like criminals, when we were the ones who only sawthe body, and anyway that David orwhatever his name is was by thebody, he found it. All our statementshad to be clear and very detailed.

They brought a black body bagforward; we stood watching as theylifted the body into the bag slowly
disappearing. We were all very scared; we didn’t
know what was going to happen nextand so we handed in our statementsand carried on along our trip.
The last thing we heard wasthat they were still trying to locatehis family as they haven’t been ableto just yet.
We asked and asked, but weweren’t being told anything eitherand to me I knew this was going totake much longer than it already had,
which was also longer than we hadexpected.
1 MONTH LATER…….Its now been 1 month, when wecalled the police station, but not oneofficer would tell us anything.Everyone was just blanking us out; Iwas beginning to feel invisible.

Chapter 4
Weeks and weeks.
We waited, we waited and we waitedsome more, but everyday was justanother day of waiting. It was justgetting boring.
We took another trip down to the
police station and asked if there wereany news, but nobody was answering, nobody was telling us anything. Thepolice officers were just walkingaround as if we weren’t there, as if
8/7/2019 The Unexpected Discovery

nothing had happened at all even thecommanding officer. I was superised.
We definitely being ignored, now I
really felt invisible, like a ghost. “Iwonder if I can walk through a closeddoor.”Nevertheless, if I am a ghost thenpeople can walk right through me.This is how I kept feeling, but I don’tcare, I am not going to give up I amgoing to keep pushing until I find out.
We saw a door in the station thatindicated that it lead to the chief inspectors office, we pushed our waythrough and finally reached it.Obviously we knocked and then
entered; he was just sitting there inhis posh chair smoking a Cuban cigaras if he was at home.
After scanning around the roomwe asked a few of our own questionsfor a change, which in my opinion hedidn’t exactly like as his detectivesusually do the asking. I started to geta little fed up as for every questionhe kept saying “NO COMMENT” or
8/7/2019 The Unexpected Discovery
http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/the-unexpected-discovery 21/27
“I’M SORRY, BUT IT’S STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION.”
Finally, we decided to leave when
all of a sudden an officer came up tous saying that the family had beentraced and informed. We were delighted to know as well asthe news that the coroner report wasdue to come in to us tomorrowshowing us the cause of death. Icouldn’t wait as we could find out if itwas from natural causes or murder. Ihad my suspicions; this was only sowe can prevent it from happening tosomeone else.
Now that we knew that all we had todo was wait some more untiltomorrow or the day after for thereport to come but like we were toldthe postage date isn’t definite. But if we have to wait. This will just keepgoing, just like I had been for thepast few weeks.
1 WEEK LATER!!

Chapter 5

AnswersThe news we had received wereabout him.The dead man from the dark woodsthe gloomy wilderness. The policeand their top men, who this time
claimed to be in the C.S.I. said theyfound out the victims details.
He was Mr. Roger. McDonald. MrMcDonald was born on the 17th July1940 and he died on the 28th
September 2009 leaving behind hiswidow, Mrs Tracy McDonald, 3children, Amy, Steven and Sarah andlast but by no means least 9 grandchildren, who are also in tears withbroken hearts?
We spoke to the family and theysaid “we are all going to miss him as
he was an inspiration for the grandchildren who want to go in themilitary just like their grandpa afterhearing all of his stories, especiallywhen he always used to say never

give up on your hopes and dreamsalways work hard to become whatyou want to be.”
As the family want the funeral tobe over and done with the police arepaying and organising all the bits andbobs for the funeral.
Finally, we received the report andapparently it was murder, but not astabbing the victim was strangledextremely hardly which broke hiswind pipe where he could not get anyoxygen.
The funeral is on the 10th January2010, the police are now looking forpossible suspects and hope to find
the killer as they are still analyzingour statements especially the onewritten by David CalcuttWe sent our condolences to thefamily. But here is one thing I can say iswhoever killed Mr McDonald willcome to a point when they will find ithard to cope with and will hand theirself in as its 1st degree murder. Akiller can’t hide forever!
