Portland managed strong numbers despite having the lowest population of any city on the countdown.In Portland, you can float in a tank, grab a burger, buy a cup of java, and more, all for Bitcoin on your phone.

L.A. has everything from cafes and restaurants to legal practices and hypnotists that are readily accepting Bitcoin.

• Number of merchants: 49• Bitcoin Meet-Up group members: 813
NYC ultimately lost points for its low merchant-to-population ratio – which is something like 160,000 to 1 – though it’s hard to ignore NYC as the financial capital of the United States.

Considering the size of the city – which, as of 2012, had less than a million residents – the proportion of merchants to residents is about 30,000 to 1.
San Francisco also has numerous trading centers – like Coinbase, Trade Hill, and GoGoCoin. This makes San Francisco the hands-down winner.
