Pony Club Mission Statement

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. is an educational organization which builds the foundations of teamwork and sportsmanship through riding,

mounted sports, care of horses and ponies, while developing and enhancing leadership, confidence,

responsibility, and a sense of community in its youth and adult members.

Pony Club Core Values

H orsemanship with respect to healthcare, nutrition, stable management, handling and

riding a mount safely, correctly and with confidence.

O rganized teamwork including cooperation, communication, responsibility, leadership,

mentoring, teaching and fostering a supportive yet competitive environment.

R espect for the horse and self through horsemanship; for land through land

conservation; and for others through service and teamwork.

S ervice by providing an opportunity for members, parents, and others to support the Pony Club

program locally, regionally and nationally through volunteerism.

E ducation at an individual pace to achieve personal goals and expand knowledge through

teaching others.

The Pony Club Pledge

“As a member of the United States Pony Clubs, I stand for the best in sportsmanship

as well as in horsemanship.

I shall compete for the enjoyment of the game well played and take winning or losing in stride,

remembering that without good manners and good temper, sport loses its cause for being.

I shall endeavor to maintain the best tradition of the ancient and noble skill of horsemanship, always treating my horse with consideration due a partner.”

Dear Pony Club Supporters:

As we look back on 2020, never in my wildest imagination did I think that it would be quite so challenging. Wow! What a year 2020 was! COVID-19, cancelling of all Pony Club in-person activities, an unprecedented, rescheduled Festival, re-imagined certifications, lessons, and competitions, civil unrest, fires, hurricanes, erratic economy…what have I forgotten?

However, we all have remained “Pony Club Strong,” doing whatever it takes to keep our organization relevant and vibrant, continually adhering to the protocols and traditions of Pony Club, while adapting to new norms, regulations, and guidelines.

As I reflect back on 2020 and Pony Club, there are three groups that stand out as the unsung heroes, making dynamic and rewarding options available to our broad and diverse membership: First, there is the National Office staff that worked diligently and nimbly to develop programs and support for the many volunteers, that, across the country, have worked to provide exceptional (and safe) Pony Club experiences for members and families. The National Office produced the necessary new COVID protocols and guidelines; it developed innovative online and virtual learning opportunities geared to all levels of the membership; and it coordinated testings, online quiz competitions, and more, so that the membership could continue to get the most out of Pony Club and all that it offers.

Second, there are the countless volunteers across this vast nation who unselfishly delivered programs, found innovative teaching opportunities, and facilitated and coordinated numerous rallies, testings, and other Pony Club adventures…all while adhering to strict and sometimes cumbersome COVID rules.

And maybe most important, third, we have you, our loyal and generous supporters. In times when challenges of every imaginable and unprecedented variety presented themselves, each of you dug even deeper than normal to help make it all happen. Your unselfish and generous support itself was unprecedented and allowed the Pony Club programs, no matter how different they looked, to flourish and thrive. We are well aware that many organizations justifiably sought your support, and that in addition to helping others meet the 2020 challenges they faced, you steadfastly stood by Pony Club to make sure that we were able to deliver the absolute best in equine education and leadership training.

I now am more optimistic than ever about the future of Pony Club. We are on the cusp of exciting new directions that will take our organization boldly forward for another 75 or 100 years, including a new and sustained approach to inclusion and diversity!

My hat is tipped to each and every member of the Pony Club family. We don’t yet know exactly what 2021 has in store for us, but I am once again confident that Pony Club will rise to whatever occasion presents itself. What an organization! What a blessed family. Thank you all.

The United States Pony Clubs, Inc. is a non-profit equestrian educational organization which serves all ages of membership and allows Pony Club education to continue for a lifetime. The foundation of Pony Club education, both in and out of the barn, is safety, horsemanship, sportsmanship, leadership, stewardship and fun. Members learn riding and mounted sports, and the care of horses. The skills and values instilled through Pony Club teamwork and horsemanship apply to every aspect of life. Pony Club is supported by the efforts of dedicated volunteers, donors, friends and sponsors.
