The universities can be divided into three groups:
•The oldest universities;
•The redbrick universities;
•The new universities;
• There are 38 colleges of the University of Oxford.
• There are about 21000 students; over 1000 teachers.
The “redbrick” universities or the universities of 19th century:
• The University of Bristol
• The University of Birmingham;
• The University of Manchester;
• The University of Sheffield;
• The University of Leeds;
• The University of Liverpool.
The new universities:
• The University of Brighton;
• The University of Greenwich;
• The University of Lincoln;
• The University of Staffordshire;
• The University of Winchester, etc.
