ISSUE 09 MARCH 10 V sta THE PAUL HARRIS BULLETIN OF ROTARY BANGALORE SOUTH THE ROTARY FOUNDATION HALL OF HONOR CLUB VISIT OF GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE TEAM District Conference was held on 6th and 7th of February, 2010 at Palace Grounds, Bangalore. It was a well organized conference with speakers from various fields. Popular Cine Artist of yester years Amol Palekar was also one of the speakers. On Second Day after lunch, DGE Rtn. M.N.Suresh was presented to the conference. The procession was led by President Rtn. Dr.Prafulla Thumati with Rotarians and Anns from Bangalore South Club. All Rotarians were wearing light grey blazer and all Anns were wearing uniform saree to show solidarity and support to DGE M.N.Suresh. The procession to dais was accompanied by chanting of mantras and DGE Rtn.M.N.Suresh was wearing the traditional Mysore Turban. DGE Rtn.M.N.Suresh presented his team to the audience. GSE team from District 1080, East Anglia, United Kingdom visited our club on 10th February,2010. It was a joint meeting with Bangalore South West, South East, National Park and Jayanagar clubs. After a brief introduction by the team leader Rtn. Nick Corke the team members Ms. Tracey Jones, Amy Gasper, Alder Tye and Mr. Magnus Ross made power point presentation. District 1080 , East Anglia consist of 77 clubs with 2450 members. East Anglia is one of the 29 Rotary Districts in Great Britain. Presidents of South West, South East, National Park, Jayanagar and South exchanged the club flags with the visiting GSE team. DGE Rtn.M.N.Suresh presented mementos to all the visiting GSE team members. There was a good interaction with the GSE team members by Rotarians of all the 5 clubs. GSE team invited us to visit their clubs. They also evinced interest in our community service activities. Meeting ended with vote of thanks proposed by Rtn. Nagesh Siddarth, President of Rotary South West. Later the guests were taken to dinner at the city institute. District Conference – RI Dist 3190

District Conference was held on 6th and 7th of February, 2010 at

Month of February was hectic with District conference, GSE team’s visit, etc. Next year’s Governor of District 3190 Rtn.M.N.Suresh is from our club and the preparations for the next year are hectically going on. There was a good response for the note book project and I request all the Rotarians to come forward and support this project which will help lot of students from the rural areas.

I invite Rotarians, Anns and Annets to contribute to this monthly bulletin to make it more interesting for the readers.

D i s t r i c t G o v e r n o r designate for the year 2012-13 for district 1190 Rtn.David Simpson along with Rotarians from his district visited our club on 3rd Feb. Our President R t n . D r . T h u m a t i exchanged flags with them. Inner Wheel President Ann Vijaya Puttaraju handed over momentos to all the visiting Rotarians from Dist 1190. Rtn.David Simpson released the mon th l y bu l l e t i n o f Bangalore South Club 'The Vista'.

During the District Conference a skit was performed by Presidents and first ladies of a few Rotary Clubs on Rotary impact on the family. Our president Rtn.Dr.Prafulla and Ann Suma participated in the skit. Skit demonstrated how Rotary can help bring harmony during family conflicts.

Mr.Shankarnarayan was the guest speaker for the day. He was introduced to the audience by President Dr.Rtn.Thumati. Through power point presentation he explained that CFL lighting has limitation and is toxic with its vapor of mercury. With LED lighting power load can be reduced up to 77% and a power saving up to 66% can be achieved.

The information was well appreciated by the Rotarians.

Second round of pulse polio was conducted on 7th February, 2010. Our club has participated actively covering the areas of N.R.Colony and Gavipuram. Interact club members took a procession with banners of End Polio.

Month end cultural program was held on 24th February. Kumari Ananya per formed Bharata Natyam. Kumari Ananya was introduced to the audience by Past President Rtn. S.Srinivas. She has given various performances in India and abroad. Dance performance was well appreciated by all and the meeting was followed by dinner.

The guest speaker for the meeting was Dr.H.V.Srinivas an Ophthalmic Surgeon. He was introduced to the audience by Rtn. D r . H . V . R a j a s h e k a r a S e t t y . Dr.H.V.Srinivas through power point presentation explained the various common eye problems faced by the people and the precautions to be taken for the same. He also informed that 70% of the input to brain comes from eyes and eyes have to be taken care properly to avoid any damage or injury. Meeting was adjourned with vote of thanks by Secretary Rtn. M.V.Gopalakrishna.

A cheque for Rs 3500 was presented to Dinesh R a poor student who pursues his studies by doing instituted odd jobs of cleaning cars. The amount was given from the endowment fund instituted by Past Presidents Rtn. M.V. Raghavendra and Rtn. S.B. Ghorpade.

First Interact Club of Rotary outside USA was established in Tanjore, India.

Government has a plan to make the education department office a paperless office through implementation of E-Governance. It plans to train 900 teachers in the computer applications. Sankya- Computer Project of Rotary Bangalore South will collaborate with Government to train 900 teachers to implement paperless office. Rtn.Suresh K Bhat explained the details of the project during the inauguration.

Viswashanti Niketan – a home away from home is a Group Home Rehabilitation

Complex. It is a place for the mentally challenged people. It was formed in 1978

and achieved phenomenal growth in last 30 years. It is situated at Arasinakunte

on the outskirts of Bangalore. Beautiful buildings with excellent ambience

makes the inmates feel happy and relaxed.

Our PDG Rtn. S.Udayashankar, Past Presidents Rtn. M.N.Suresh,

Rtn.B.S.Arunkumar, Rtn. G.Muralidhar and our President Rtn.Dr.Prafulla

Thumati have contributed Rs10,000 each. Bangalore South Rotary Trust

contributed Rs60,000. The total amount of Rs1,10,000 was spent to equip the

kitchen block of the Viswashanti Niketan. The kitchen block was inaugurated

by PDG Rtn. S.Udayashankar during their visit on 11th February, 2010. The

inmates are trained to make handicrafts and convert old news papers, old

clothes to usable carry bags and other items.

An Appeal

Interact Club of JSS Public School- Members of Interact club have collected rice from the students through an appeal“ FIST- FULL OF RICE” . The idea is to collect one fistful of rice per day by each student which can make it to one full bag in a month and same is donated to the needy. A good initiative from the Interact Club President Roshan P.Thumati. A good work in deed.

To be able to smile in the face of disaster is the result of a stable mind.

Vasavi Medical Trust along with Rotary Bangalore South has performed 116 free dialysis in Jan and Feb 2010.
