RAIN FOREST WEEKENDS AT ROARING CAMP January 5 – March 31 (weekends only)

Learn about California’s own rain forest…its forests of coastal redwoods. Roaring Camp is offering weekend excursions of the Rain Forest by rail January 5 to March 31.

Located in the Santa Cruz Mountains just a few miles from the ocean, the forest flourishes in moderate temperatures and a year-round water supply provided by frequent Pacific systems and dense fog.

In winter, California’s rain forest is most dramatic. Storms whip branches; foliage glistens; and the air is filled with the aroma of California bay laurel and tanbark oak. As visitors ride at branch level through an old-growth forest by steam train, a guest narrator provides information about the rain forests and eco-systems of California coastal redwoods.

Rain Forest weekend trains operate Saturdays and Sundays at 12:30 pm from January 5 through March 31. Regular Redwood Forest trains depart Mondays-Fridays at 12:30 pm.

Roaring Camp is in Felton, six miles north of Santa Cruz. Exit State Route 17 at Mt. Hermon Road, left at Graham Hill Road, then ½ mile to the entrance. For information and tickets, call (831) 335-4484 or visit www.roaringcamp.com.

CAMPBELL’S HERITAGE THEATRE PRESENTS

CHERRY POPPIN’ DADDIES

Campbell’s historic Heritage Theatre rocks in the New Year with the third show of its six-show 2018-2019 Season. Get ready for a lively evening of music featuring a band known for its rebellious reputation. The Cherry Poppin’ Daddies perform on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 8:00pm.

Over a 25-plus year period, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies have made it their mission to veer from genre to genre across the musical map, tempered and informed by an adherence to an older tradition grounded in Tin Pan Alley, Swing music, and the great American songbook. Powered by a prominent horn section, the evening features a musical journey through the band’s lengthy discography, from 1990’s Preciously Stoned to 1997’s Zoot Suit Riot to 2014’s Please Return The Evening, a salute to the music of the Rat Pack.

Cherry Poppin' Daddies has always prided itself on its craft and musicianship, superior skills that have allowed them to excel in whatever format they choose to tackle. While the “rebellious” image is indeed well deserved, the band’s ability to bend the boundaries has been simultaneously tempered and informed by an adherence to an older tradition.

According to the band's longtime leader, singer/songwriter Steve Perry, the Cherry Poppin' Daddies’ mantra has remained the same – "the obstacle is the path” – that is, to pursue unexpected and difficult avenues that challenge both themselves as artists and modern sensibilities, while at the same time adhering to standards and erstwhile traditions of American popular song.

Individual tickets are now on sale for $49 through the Box Office, or by phone at 408-866-2700. Tickets can also be purchased online at HeritageTheatre.org.
