~ 1 ~ Pastor’s Point of View Greetings Dear Friends! Summer vacation is here! By the time you read this, Chris and I will have just returned from our vacation. I have found that it is always good to go away, but it is also good to come back home. I hope you all can enjoy some time away to be refreshed, and while you are away, don’t forget to attend church somewhere. I would love to hear about your experiences, and please bring me a bulletin and other information from your visit. While vacation season is here, that doesn’t mean we take a vacation from church! There is a lot going on this summer. Vacation Bible School is from June 24-28. Please be praying for this opportunity to impact the children in our church and community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Please pray that we will plant some seeds which will bear fruit that will last! We need your prayers, but we also need you! Find a place to volunteer and plug in. You will be blessed, and our children will be blessed by your participation, and God will be pleased! On Sunday, July 15 th , we will be having our Worship Service and Picnic in Valley Park. We will gather for worship at the pavilion at 10:00 AM. There will be no worship service at our facility at 5339 Teays Valley Rd. The church has left the building to worship God in a different location and to enjoy a delicious picnic and good fellowship among our church family. We will have some fun playing games after we eat, and maybe even gather back together for some singing and eating later in the day! Please plan now to come and invite a friend. Bring a dish to share and come prepared to have a wonderful Sabbath Day together! More details are coming but mark your calendars now! On Friday, July 20 and Saturday morning, July 21 Bill Cain, a lifelong friend, mentor and fellow pastor, will be coming to lead our Session and Staff in a Strategic Planning Workshop. Please be in prayer for this event as we seek to discern God’s will and vision for the future ministry of TVPC. Bill will also be preaching on July 22 nd . Congratulations to all our graduates! May God guide you and direct you as you enter into a new chapter in your life! Don’t forget, you are still a part of the TVPC church family! Have a great summer everyone! Hope to see you in church! It's time to join us at the Cupboard! Our church will once again provide volunteers to staff the Christian Community Cupboard the last two weeks in July. Our dates of service will be Friday July 20, Saturday July 21, Tuesday July 24, Friday July 27, Tuesday July 28. You will need to be at the Cupboard from 9:15 until about noon. Please check your calendar and let me know if you like to work and I will put you on the schedule. This is a wonderful Mission Outreach opportunity for everyone, including the youth of our church. In June, we will be collecting money to purchase hot dogs and buns. We will distribute them in July during the days our church members work at the Cupboard. Please put you donations in the collection plate and indicate that it is for the Christian Community Cupboard.

Thank you, Barb Davis

Church News

It is almost time for the Putnam County DOG

JOG, and we need volunteers! The Evangelism

Ministry Team is organizing volunteers for the

4th Annual DOG JOG, Putnam County’s 5K

run/walk event that “combines paws for a

cause.” The fundraiser for the Putnam County

Animal Shelter will be Saturday, June 16 from

8:00 - 10:00 am at Valley Park, in Hurricane.

Volunteers are needed at registration (7:00

am) and at water stations (7:45 am). If you

could help, please speak with Bob Hansen

([email protected]) or Tom Smith

([email protected]).

Vacation Bible School…*new friends*,

*amazing crafts*, *wild games*, *lip-smacking

snacks*, *mind-blowing Bible adventures with

amazing music*! Yes, those words perfectly

describe the fun at VBS. And, the fun will soon

be here at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church!

Our “Crocodile Dock” Vacation Bible School

will start on Sunday evening, June 24 and will

run through Thursday, June 28. It will start

each evening at 6:00 pm and conclude at 8:30.

There are classes for children, three-years old

through 8th graders. The Discipleship Ministry

Team, which is organizing this special week,

hopes that everyone in our church family will

spread the word about our plans and

encourage their friends and neighbors to join

in the week of fun. For questions, or to

register to attend, call the church office at

304-757-6073

There is still a lot of work to prepare for this

amazing experience. We need volunteers to

help with the preparations before VBS week

and also during the week. How can you help?

We need many supplies…some items must be

purchased, and other things may be in your

attic or garage.

Needed items include: fishing gear, swamp-

looking plants, items you might find around a

fishing shack, a jon boat, etc.

Also needed: cardboard egg cartons, green (all

shades) spray paint, empty 16 oz. water/soda

bottles, paper towel rolls, cases of 8 oz. bottled

water, packs of Capri Sun juice, 12 packs of

Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite, and bags of chips,

pretzels, Cheetos.

Donations of money are also welcomed as

there are many items which we may need to

purchase.

There will be work parties scheduled during

June making props, preparing crafts, checking

supplies, etc. Check the bulletin and watch for

emails about work parties.

During the week of Vacation Bible School,

volunteers are still needed to help with the six

different age groups. Leaders will help

navigate the groups to the different

stations…Games, Bible Stories, Music, Crafts,

and Snacks. Each of those stations needs

volunteers to help also.

If you would be able to assist, you may contact

Chris Key or Bonnie Pritt, or call Karren in the

church office.

The Mission Outreach Ministry Team

is hosting their June picnic for the Teays Valley

Manor residents on Saturday, June 2, from

4:00 to 6:00 pm. Team members supply all the

picnic food, like hot dogs, hamburgers, baked

beans, potato and pasta salad, cold drinks,

watermelon and yummy desserts. It is a fun

time to enjoy the good food and fellowship

with our neighbors.

Anyone who would like to join us for dinner,

please speak with Dianne Harrah.

Hello and Happy June to you and you ... JUNE

is busting out all over - I think

most months bring songs to my

old memories ... lots of fun things

are lined up - like the “Dog Jog”

coming June 16 (look for more

information) - Vacation Bible

School coming 6/24, Worship out of the church

house - down at Valley Park on July 15 (details

coming) ... Now there has been a change for the

final summer meeting of Hannah Circle –

instead of going to “Fat Patties” for dinner ...we

are going to play it safe and come to our newly

beautified “Church Parlor” for a carry-in dinner

on June 5th... keeping away from all these

Hepititus A, B or C germs, etc. as suggested by

several members of the circle - come and join

us .. good food and great com-rod-erie (however

it is spelled) .. so far I know someone is bringing

a chicken dish - and veggie salad - and another

salad with cauliflower - so just make your

favorite but come JUNE 2nd at 5:30 ...PS the

CM is making a cake or some kind of desserts

and something else - Pastor sent some quotes to

the session and I want to copy them for you ...

“God loves each of us as if there is only one of

us” (Augustine)

“I was not born to be free, I was born to adore

and obey” (CS. Lewis) ...Martin Luther said to

his students: “Your responsibility is to get God’s

Word from your mouth to their ears. Only God

can take it from their ears to their heart.” “ The

Spiritual life does not remove us from the world

but takes us deeper into it.” (Henn Neuwen) ... I

guess I have done enough preaching - remember

a random act of kindness makes someone feel so special.... Stay Nice ... Luv CM
