LavenderCalming, soothing, and great for your skin.

    L

avender oil is definitely one of mygo to oils. I also think it is one ofthe most widely known oils. Many

products are infused with lavender scent. Lets not confuse the scent oflavender with therapeutic-grade lavenderhowever. Purchasing a lavender-scentedfabric softener or candle is not going tomake you a healthier person. Essential oilsthat are purchased in the craft store willnot improve your wellness either. Addingtherapeutic-grade essential oils to your dailyroutine will impact your physical health as

well as your emotional health. Historically, lavender was used topromote tissue regeneration and increasethe speed at which flesh wounds can heal.oday, lavender is widely used in skin careproducts for the same reason. Simply put

skin loves lavender! Other medicinal uses for lavenderinclude: respiratory infections, highblood pressure, arteriosclerosis, menstrualproblems and PMS, and skin conditionssuch as perineal repair, acne, eczema, psoriasis, scarring, and even stretch marks.Lavender can also be applied to minorburns. Other common uses for lavender oilare to combat hair loss, eliminate insomnia, and relieve nervous tension. Te most important propertiesof lavender are: anti-septic, anti-fungal,analgesic, anti-tumoral, anti-convulsant,vasodilating, relaxant, and anti-inflammatory. Lavender has also been

shown to reduce blood fat and cholesterol.Since it can also combat excess sebum onthe skin, many people use it to fight acne as

well. Because lavender is very calmingand soothing, people often diffuse this oilthroughout the day. Studies have shownthat diffusing lavender oil in a workenvironment can dramatically improvemental accuracy and concentration.Students who diffuse lavender while taking

tests in school can increase their test scoresby as much as 50% due to increasedconcentration levels. Lavender can also reducedepression. Because inhaling lavenderincreases the beta waves in the brain, peoplebecome more relaxed and balanced by the

    whiff.

Lavender can be used in a varietyof ways. Te most obvious way to uselavender is to diffuse it. Direct inhalationby rubbing a few drops on your handsand cupping your hands over your face isanother soothing way to enjoy lavenderduring the day. Place a couple of drops onyour pillowcase to sooth you throughout thenight. Dab a drop or two behind your earand wear it like perfume to increase mentalclarity while at work. Lavender is also safe toingest as well as safe for topical application.

Your skin will love it! Tis may sound strange to somepeople, but lavender can also be used incooking and baking. Add a couple of drops

of lavender to vanilla frosting to spiceup those cupcakes for your next party.Lavender blended with other spices used inmeat dishes creates a unique taste that willmake your family take notice.

Lavender is also very soothingto pets. Dogs, cats and even horses alike

will be calm and peaceful from the smellof lavender. Sprinkle a couple drops oflavender in those places your cats scratchtoo much, and they will naturally moveto another, hopefully more appropriate, spot. A drop in your dogs bed will make apeaceful night for you all.

    For more information about

lavender or any other oil, please call me at559-400-1352. I love to talk about oils! Youcan also contact me through my website at

www.PermissionCS.com to ask questionsor set up a consulting appointment.

Remember, before you go buyingjust any oil, there are some things toseriously consider in order to get the resultsyoure looking for. Let me help you toensure that the oil youre getting is the exactone for your needs.

Te Green MachineReggae the just way you want it.

Without anyone really noticing,Reggae has been steadily flourishingin the San Joaquin Valley. More

commonly are bands like Iration, ribal Seedsand Rebelution making repeat visits to perform

in Fresno due to the increase in popularity of thegenre. But residents of the Central Valley areadont have to wait long for national bands tofinally make their way in to the Valley to enjoysmooth, jammin, high quality reggae live. TeGreen Machine has been delivering it for over 15years, right here in our own backyards.

Te Green Machine is arguably the

best exponent of rock steady reggaein the Central Valley, anyone whohas been following them for anylength of time would be hardpressed to find a reason to debateotherwise. For 15 years Chris &ina Avila, along with Ras Horacehave been shaping and honing theincredible music that make up theirdistinct sound. Te bands current lineupconsists of Lynell Paul on drums, ravis Goeber on saxophone, percussion & vocals, DaveHuckabay on keyboards and vocals,David Emery Wilde on rhythmguitar as well as vocals, Clark Vitalesupplying sound and samples. Andof course, the core members, ChrisAvila on guitar, ina Avila on bassand lead vocals, rounding off with

Ras Horace also on vocals and percussion.Green Machine call themselves a

reggae-jam band (think Grateful Dead andPhish) Tey swing, groove and deliver a bevy ofmelodies colliding with a very persuasive rhythmsection. If you dont end up being transported bytheir music, then apologies, youre missing outon a great experience. Teir music will take youon a trip outside of yourself, if you let it, giving

you an undoubtedly much needed break fromthe worries and hurries of everyday life. Te last I saw them was in San Jose, sometime last year, and as always they gave astellar performance. Every time I see them theresalways something new, expansions of theirmusical vision. Tey are always evolving, neversatisfied with staying in one place for too long.

Tey are, in my humble opinion, a fantasticband. Call it destiny. call it persistence, call itwhat you want but Te Green Machine will giveyou an unexpected experience! I dont willinglygive this sort of praise to many, but I do forthem because they really do deserve it.

Listening to the CD that Chris Avilagave me in San Jose over a year ago is still ajoyful experience. I whole heartedly believe thatthey are going be recognized far and wide thisyear. And I strongly suggest that if you haveany interest in reggae that you give Te GreenMachine a listen. You can find their music via

    their Facebook page at www.facebogreenmachinerules.

Chris and ina Avila are South Valley so we dont see them awe wish in Fresno, but theyre onlyaway, performing in Hanford, Visa

Rivers. Tey perform all over Califobe performing in Visalia at the CelFebruary 19th. Hopefully we will sthe Fresno/Clovis area soon.

    Richie &MarilynA class act

Sonny and Cher. Johnny Cash and JuneCarter. Sharon and Ozzy. Power couples,to name a few, who found a balance

between their personal love for each other and

their broader love for music. For anyone whohas dated a musician, youll know that this isnt

an easy path to nd yourself on. However, forsome, it was an evolution of their relationshipthat came without much resistance. Such is thestory for one of Fresnos own music powercouples, Richie Blue and Marilyn, who havebeen bringing blues to the Central Valley fornearly a decade together. Americana Blues guitarist, Richie Bluehas an impressive career spanning 45 years.

    Hes toured internationally with renowned

blues man Terry Hanck and the late harmonicamaster, Norton Buffalo. He currently performsregularly in gigs handled by his manager,Marilyn.

Their relationship started innocentlyenough, Marilyn just happened to be at oneof Richies shows when she needed to retrievea borrowed guitar for a friend, one look andthats all it took. The rest, as they say, washistory, Marilyn and Richie working togetherever since.

The couple made their way toFresno about 8 years ago. Marilyn is a Fresno

native, (Fresno High, class of 78) and it washer family ties that led them to make themove to the Central Valley, so she could be

closer to her aging parents. Richie originallyhails from Ellensburg Washington, anagricultural city of 26,000 in the eastern part

of the state. Presently Richiehosts and performs at the weekly Hump DayBlues Jam at the Skyline Club in Clovis on

Wednesdays. On any given night some of

the nest musicians in the Valley, or eventhose who are just passing through, show upto play a few tunes with their friends. Last

week, John Cliftons Band played a set gettingready for a mini tour in Southern California.

John recently returned from two weeks in

Poland and Denmark and is going back inApril. Fresno native Dave Chavoya played aset last month when he was in town to visit

his parents. For those who dont know, Daveis a highly regarded harmonica player whomigrated to Sonoma a long time ago butstill comes to Fresno occasionally to visit his

family. Richies bands current lineupconsists of legendary Valley blues drummerand teacher, Chris Millar, and bassist JonCrossen. Occasionally Brandon Polin will

play second guitar when Richie wants a fullquartet sound. If youre lucky, sometimes youcan spot Fresnos own guitar master, RogerPerry, playing some gigs on bass, guitar and/or vocals.

However, in the month of March, youll be hard pressed to nd Richie

performing locally. Marilyn hasbooked a string of shows in thenorthwest where Richie will be ontour from Northern California to hishome in Ellensburg,Washington, and

in to Montana. During our meet atthe recent Thursday Art Hop gig forRichie at Gazebo Gardens, I asked

how she likes being Richies manager. Her response was a happy one.

I love this job. bookingRichie and keeping the businessside together is the most gratifyingjob I have ever had. I guess it helps

when you love the person you aremarketing and I do. We have hadsome wild adventures on the road;driving through white-out blizzards

and hitting a 400 pound buck,to coaxing club owners to pay whenthey have decided otherwise. Its beena heck of a ride and I have enough

road stories lled with comedy anddrama to ll a book. Richie and Marilyn Blue are

truly a class act. The Central Valleyis fortunate to have such a talentedguitarist/performer calling Fresnohome. If you get a chance catch hisact, do so, Richie wont disappoint.

For bookings (559) 213-1163 or email [email protected]. To learn more aboutRichie, his music and where hellbe performing next, you can checkout www.richieblue.net or www.reverbnation.com/richieblue.
