The Value of Nursing Informatics

Objectives

• Define integration strategies to improve Quality

• Identify opportunities to improve workflow optimization

with automated solutions

• Understand impact of Healthcare policies and initiatives

which impact Nursing Informatics

• Nursing informatics (NI) is the specialty that integrates nursing science with multiple information management and analytical sciences to identify, define, manage, and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in nursing practice. NI supports nurses, consumers, patients, the interprofessional healthcare team, and other stakeholders in their decision-making in all roles and settings to achieve desired outcomes. This support is accomplished through the use of information structures, information processes, and information technology. Nursing Informatics: Scope and Standards of Practice 2nd Edition ANA 2015

• Nursing Informatics is the "science and practice (that) integrates nursing, its information and knowledge, with management of information and communication technologies to promote the health of people, families, and communities worldwide.“ (AMIA)

someone out, of asking questions to which you do not

already know the answer, of building a relationship

based on curiosity and interest in the other person.”
