A number of important issues were discussed and voted upon. The assembly approved the 2011 budget and nominated/voted in three new board members. Social Welcome committee is always looking for new volunteers and is

open to new ideas for our neighborhood.

We meet each month on the second Tuesday @ 7:00 pm. Come on by and

say hello to us!

I wanted to report a few things to the neighborhood in case you missed the yearly meeting. For your planning purposes the dues for 2011 will be $252.00. This payment will be due by March 15th 2011. As a quick overview, the dues covers the costs of our lawn care, which is and has always been our biggest expense; our utility bills, which include the clubhouse utilities, watering the common area lawns, and the outdoor lighting; our repairs - including those on the boardwalks, sprinklers, fences, the playground, and around the lake; our holiday parties; our insurance; and our taxes. Just from that list you can see that you own quite a lot more than just your home in Rivershyre!

This year the pool was able to support itself with the money from pool memberships. We are always grateful when this happens. The pool benefits our whole neighborhood whether you choose to belong or not.

I am happy to report that we currently have $89,000 in our long term savings account. This money is there to

Treasure’s Report

cover the costs of large repairs which will happen eventually but not yearly. This includes big ticket items like road and parking lot repairs, tennis court resurfacing, appliance and roof replacement at the clubhouse, new pool pumps and plastering, new fencing, stonework repairs, and unforeseen emergencies. We began the long term savings about 10 years ago to help plan for these future costs so that we would not have to go into debt should several items need replacing at the same time. As this neighborhood ages more repairs will be needed, but thankfully we are prepared.

The Board has been very responsible with your money and thanks to the many volunteers here our costs have stayed relatively low.

If you have any questions about the budget, you can call me at 706-855-8122.

Thank you, Holly Bullock

the trestle with drugs. In December we had a home broken into. They broke the glass window around the front door and unlocked it. Only $100 was taken. In January 2010 we had a phone scam for a fake lottery. February 2010 we had 3 aggressive dog incidents. April 2010 we had the 3 burglar suspects loose in the neighborhood. Two were caught that day and one a few days later. We activated the Calling Post provided by Phil Alexander to alert everyone in the neighborhood. We beat the Sherriff’s Department reverse 911 call by 30 to 45 minutes! May 2010 we had a commercial truck tool box broken into where their power tools were stolen. June 2010 more jumpers were caught on the trestle. Some of them lived in the neighborhood. In September we had a tool shed broken into where power tools were stolen. All in all for one year it really wasn’t that bad. We had 4 months of 0 incidents for the year! I want to thank all of you for working together to keep this neighborhood safe! On Halloween night Neighborhood Watch and Safety will have several houses in the neighborhood that will be handing out glow sticks for the kids to wear while they are trick or treating. Parents, we need to make sure that they are visible while they are going through the neighborhood. If you can park your cars in the driveways that night it would be a great help! As a reminder the days are getting shorter. We need to make sure that when we are walking early in the morning or after dark in the evening that we all wear reflective clothing and have flash lights. Walkers and runners should be facing traffic as they are walking. We all need to keep a look out for the kids as they are getting on the school buses in the morning! Also dog owners, we need to make sure that our dogs are under control at all times by being on a leash when they are not inside or your fenced backyard. If you have changed your phone number or email address this year or are new to the neighborhood, please email me your new contact information at [email protected].

Just wanted to thank the residents of Rivershyre that were able to attend the Annual Association Meeting on September 21. For those of you who were not able to attend, I thought you might be interested in a summary of the activities of the Neighborhood Watch and Safety Committee. This past year we had a trip to Clarks Hill Dam where several families were able to tour the dam and learn about the history and importance of the dam as far as controlling the water levels and generating electricity. We also learned about all of the various activities that were available for families at the lake. April 2010 we had our annual Safety Night Out program which covered topics on How to Protect Yourself from Fraud. We had a great turn out for that event. August 2010 we were invited to attend the Columbia County Neighborhood Watch Leaders Safety Night Out program. About 20 neighborhoods were represented at the meeting. It was very informative. We met people from several different departments within the Sherriff’s Department. The main problem that a lot of the neighborhoods were having thefts from of unlocked cars. We were the first Neighborhood to request the “Lock It or Lose It” sign which is placed at the front of the neighborhood. We had a lot of problems back in July, August and September 2009. Thanks to all of you watching out for each other and keeping your cars locked, the last incident of that kind was September 2009. I am very proud of all of you for being diligent!! Our main accomplishment of the year was completing the Neighborhood Directory which was handed out at the meeting. We will have them available at the Halloween Parade and Bonfire on October 30. We all need to thank Kari Wilkes and Phillip Jones at Re/Max Realty for helping to make it possible! This past year we had very few incidents. In September 2009 we had 2 unlocked cars vandalized. In November we had some kids who were arrested on

One would think that Fall has not arrived with the 90 degree temperatures, but that’s Augusta, Georgia for ya!! The pool has been closed for a month now and everything is put away until next year. Thanks to the Pool Committee and a few other volunteers, we were able to make some improvements. As stated in previous newsletters; blinds were added to the pool house, lights in the veranda area, repaired about 12 lounge chairs, the entire pool was pressure washed (hopefully everyone noticed) and that’s just to name a few!! Also, thanks again to our wonderful pool attendants. If you would like to be an attendant during 2011, please look out in upcoming newsletters to see when we will be interviewing. We are estimating sometime during the month of March. The Pool Committee would like to thank you for a

GREAT 2010 pool season!! We went from having 91 members from 2009 to 109 members this year. That’s almost a 20% increase and we couldn’t have done it without you and a few families from outside of Rivershyre. Spread the word to your neighbors and friends that Rivershyre has the best pool in town and tell them to come join next year! If you have ever considered joining a committee and helping the neighborhood, this is a great committee to join – won’t you please consider for 2011?!? We would love to have your ideas to make Rivershyre’s pool even better.

Last but not least……don’t forget about the 2011 Polar Bear Plunge coming up in January. Look for the date and time in the November or December newsletter.

Savings Time

Fall back November 7, 2010

The return to Standard Time (ST) begins at 2:00 am local time in the U.S. on the first Sunday in November, which in 2010 is November 7. Turn clocks back by one hour, ideally at bedtime on the Saturday night before. Manually adjust any timepieces and timekeeping technological devices that do not automatically adjust. And don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors!

Halloween Safety

Children should go out during daylight hours unless accompanied by a responsible adult. Plan a safe route so parents know where their older kids will be at all times. Set a time for their return home. Make sure that your child is old enough and responsible enough to go out by themselves. Stop only at familiar houses in your own neighborhood unless they are accompanied by an adult. Small children should never be allowed to go out alone on Halloween. Make sure an older sibling or adult is with them. Instruct your children not to eat any treats until they bring them home to be examined by you. Instruct your child to never go into the home of a stranger or get into their car. Make sure your child carries a flashlight, glow stick or has reflective tape on their costume to make them more visible to cars.
