Area : 0,20 ha Age of the vines : 25 years old Average annual production : 1 000 btls Grape variety : Pinot Noir Localisation : This parcel is located in the "GRAND MAUPERTUIS" locality in the top part of the Clos, along the superior wall, bordering the "Grands Echezeaux". It was bought by Jean GROS in 1967 in the name of his son Michel, then aged 11. It borders the family parcel in the same locality, this parcel being presently trained by Anne GROS. The 1985 frost imposed a complete pulling out of the vines. Re-planting was carried out in 1987 with the 115 clone on 161-49, which gave the grapes early ripening qualities. This wine is characterized by very silky tannins and a quite poor acidity, which make it pleasant from its youngest age, even if it is very dense. However, it can easily be aged 10 to 15 years long. Vinification and Ageing : Traditional vinification. The transfer into barrels takes place a few days after de- vatting for an eighteen-month stay. 100% of new oak barrels are used on this appellation. Only one racking is made at the end of the malolactic fermentation, usually at the end of the winter following the harvest. When the wines are about eighteen months old, that is in April, the blending of the barrels of the same appellation is carried out thanks to a racking in blending vats. We take advantage of this transfer to fine the wines with egg white albumin. The wines are kept "on fining agents" until the end of August, when it's time for bottling. Vintage 2015 2015 is the result of a vegetative season particularly favourable to the creation of great red wines in Burgundy. The level of sunshine was exceptional, with a 10% surplus compared with normal. Temperatures were 2°C above average in April, June and July and by 1°C in August and September. Very dry weather set in already in March, but was particularly pronounced in July, when it combined with a heat wave to seriously slow down the filling out of grape bunches. The few showers in August were welcome, to allow vines to ripen off their fruit without stress through lack of water, but too late to really swell the grapes. This very dry weather explains the small harvest volume, but also the great concentration of the wines. Tannins are well enriched, the result of perfect maturity accompanied by irreproachable grape healthiness. 2015 is inscribed in the lineage of 2005 and 2010, the other great vintages for keeping at the beginning of this century. Press review: Sarah Marsh, The Burgundy Briefing, Winter 2016-2017 : An rather elegant red fruit nose. The new oak is more apparent on the palate at first. It is rich and seductive on the strike. In the full mid palate it has more floral notes. It is not too rich; there is an elegance here. Ripe fruit with a good balance...just enough acidity to balance. Really quite aromatic...vineyard or oak I am not sure, but this lingers very nicely at the end. Score 19.1 (or 95.5)
