The Visions of Zechariah describe a process which achieves three things:

The punishment of systemic and unrepented evil.The means by which the world is to be cleansed.The method by which the kingdom of God replaces the kingdoms of men.

Proverbs 29v.18: “where there is no vision the people perish”

Vision (#2377) to gaze at, mental sight, to perceive, contemplate(with pleasure), a prophecy. “the people parish”: to loosen; to dismiss; Young’s: “without a vision is a people made naked”

“Where there is no vision the people

perish.”

I Cor. 14v.3:“but he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.”

Rom 12 vs 19“Vengeance is mine, I will repay

sayeth the Lord”

Vengeance #1557: retribution, vindication, and to punish. Vines renders vengeance as “that which proceeds out of justice.”Justice #2919: is rendered “to avenge, to decide (mentally or judicially).”

Rev 14:9-10Wrath (#2372): “to breath hard, to smoke, to slaughter.”Indignation (#3709): “an internal swelling, a bursting forth of anger as through justifiable abhorrence.”

A Brief Chronology to establish the Time Frame:

606 BC, First invasion by Nebuchadnezzar...70 yr captivity begins.

536 BC, Decree of Cyrus. The return authorized.

535-520 BC. The Samaritan opposition halts the work for 15 yrs.

519 BC. Zechariah receives the 7 night visions.

516 BC. The Temple is completed and dedicated (Ezra 6:15).
