Principal’s Message:
Welcome back to all the current and new families that have joined the Holy
Angels Catholic School community for the 2013-14 school year. With the great
weather this summer, we hope everyone enjoyed many outdoor activities
with friends and family. We are blessed to be back to another school year. It is
with great expectations that we embark upon this new school year. I am
happy to continue to be part of the rich faith and learning tradition that is present at Holy An-
gels C.S. The continued partnership between home, school and church is critical as a founda-
tion for a successful school. We look forward to journeying together to provide a safe, stimu-
lating and respectful learning environment for our children. Specific expectations together with
consistent standards form smooth running classrooms where students have the security of
understanding their environment. It is our hope that you will continue to work with us to fulfill
this commitment to excellence and accountability on behalf of all our children here at Holy
Angels School.
We welcome the following staff to Holy Angels: Mrs. Victorino-Avila Grade 2 teacher and Ms.
Canario and Mrs. Gross, two new E. A’s. Welcome back to Mrs. Olivieri-Grade 6 teacher and
Mrs. Coscarelli, Library Technician. On behalf of the staff, we wish everyone a productive, safe
and rewarding school year. We look forward to meeting everyone at our
Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 26 at 7:00pm .

VISTIORS TO THE SCHOOL-SAFE SCHOOLS POLICY
Visitors, particularly parents are most welcome. In the interest of maintain-ing a secure orderly school environment, we request that:
ALL VISITORS MUST REPORT TO THE OFFICE.
As part of the TCDSB Safe School Policy, all parents are required to enter the school through the front doors using the buzzer system. Come to the office to sign the visitor’s book. You will receive a visitor’s button to identify you to all staff and students. All doors to the school will be locked through-out the day.
To avoid congestion in the halls and office at the beginning and end of the school day , please wait with or for your child outside in the school
yard.
We are committed to making classroom instructional time sacred and be-lieve it is unfair for parents to ask a teacher for an impromptu hallway meet-ing while other children are waiting. Therefore, in order to maximize learn-ing opportunities for all students, we are requesting that parents call to make an appointment with the teacher ahead of time. Please do not drop your child off at the classroom door and talk to the teacher. Valu-
able instructional time is lost if several parents continue this practice.
Your support in keeping all the children safe is appreciated.

Although this may or may not affect your child’s class directly, in order to ensure the safety of these children, please send snacks and lunches with foods that are free from peanuts or nut products, eggs and fish. Treats for special occasions are en-cou ra ge d t o be non -edible(stickers, pencils, etc.) Please ensure you inform the office of any medical conditions that are of a serious or life threatening nature.

COMMUNICATION
In an effort to improve communication between home and school and to reduce our carbon footprint, the following initiatives are being undertaken this year:

update forms) to indicate that you wish to receive communications electronically. Communication is a two way street in order for
it to be effective, please assist us with the above initiatives to stay informed and save a few trees!!
FORMS
Attached you will find important forms that need to be completed in order to maintain a safe
learning environment for your child. Please complete all necessary forms and return them to
the school ASAP.
Local Excursion Permission Form:
This form authorizes us to take your child on short walking excursions in and around the
vicinity of the school; for example, studying trees, collecting leaves for Science, a visit to the
local grocery store, etc. These short trips are considered a part of the routine of the school
and you will not receive a written notice.
Lunch Permission Form:
Our preference is not to allow any student to leave for lunch - for safety reasons. However,
a letter of permission must be submitted to the main office if you allow your son/daughter to
do so. Phone calls home, requesting permission to leave for lunch will not be granted.
NO STUDENT WILL BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE SCHOOL GROUNDS WITHOUT A
NOTE… WRITTEN PERMISSION ONLY.
Student Insurance Forms:
Attached are supplemental accident insurance application forms. The cost for these various
plans is minimal and you may be saved a great deal of money in the long term. If you decide
to take out one of these policy plans, simply complete the application form and send it along
with your cheque for the appropriate amount in the pre-addressed envelope directly to the
insurance company. PLEASE DO NOT SEND THEM TO THE SCHOOL.
Media Release
This form gives us permission to print your child’s name and publish photos if needed in the
newsletter and yearbook and to display their photo in the school only and for pro-
motion of school related events and a release for specific media events that may occur on
site at Holy Angels school. Specific events outside of the school require separate permis-

School Agendas
The Holy Angels School Planners are available for all students. They
continue to provide the family and the school with the effective tool
for consistent communication.
In order to ensure consistency across the school all students will be re-
quired to use the agenda.
The cost of being organized for the year is $7.00. These daily agendas are
used as valuable organizational tools, and are also used by teachers to com-
municate with parents. It will be expected that students have their agendas
signed by their parents to ensure a certain level of communication between
the school and the home. Agendas will be on sale the first week of school.
Parent volunteers will be selling them in the classrooms.
Please review the agenda with your child, the first few pages contains impor-
tant school information including Code of Conduct, Bus Rules and other
school policies. Please write your child’s name and your daytime
phone number in the front of the agenda in case they need to con-
tact you.

Monthly Update from the Board September 2013
TCDSB Appoints New Director of Education:
The Board of Trustees of the Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) is pleased to announce that Angela
Gauthier has been appointed as the new Director of Education. Ms. Gauthier, formerly the Board’s Associate Director of
Academic Affairs, replaced Bruce Rodrigues who has been selected as the Chief Executive Officer of the Education
Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) for the Province of Ontario.
A highly respected and experienced educator with an extensive record of achievement, Ms. Gauthier brings a wealth of
leadership experience to the position, having served as the TCDSB’s Associate Director of Academic Affairs since 2008.
During her tenure, she has focused on the Board’s 21st Century Learning strategy and improving access to technology
for both students and teachers. As a graduate of the TCDSB (when it was known as the Metropolitan Separate School
Board), Ms. Gauthier has a clear understanding of the gains already made by this Board and is very passionate about
how we can better support the academic achievement and well-being of our students.
The search for the new Director was based on a selection process that took into consideration both the internal needs of
our Board moving forward and the firm commitment on the part of the Board of Trustees to ensure operational continu-
ity through careful succession planning.
The Board of Trustees looks forward to moving ahead together with Ms. Gauthier and the senior administrative team to
introduce innovative, new ideas that support learning and deal with the challenges ahead.
