Current position…

• MPB talking to Year 12 ATAR Pathway boys on Friday re TISC• No more withdrawals from subjects with practical component• Friday 19 August: Last date for withdrawal from ATAR

courses without practical examination components; last date for withdrawal from General courses

• Year 12s doing Year 11 subjects must complete all assessments by Week 1 Term 4

• Boys completing Certificate III Fitness must have First Aid Certificate by end of Term 3.

Term 3 – a demanding term for all boys

• Weeks 3 – 8: assessments

• Week 9 Mon – Wed: non-assessment days but boys MUST attend lessons as usual (excellent revision program)

• Concerns about how your son is coping? Contact HoH/tutor (school psychologists).

ATAR pathway• Term 3 uni open days: UWA + St George’s College,

ECU and WAAPA Sunday 14 August; Notre Dame Sunday 21 August

• Week 9 Thurs-Fri: study days (at home)

• Week 9 Saturday: Trial exams start - continue throughout Week 10 (timetable very soon)

Term 3 - practical exams and portfolios

• Boys have been advised of deadlines for submission of portfolios for some subjects with practical component e.g. PES, Design, MDT - must be done through school

• Managing time and meeting deadlines is vital• SCSA is extremely stringent in applying the rules• Boys were informed in Term 2 and the rules made available on

the parent portal• Penalties applied where rules are breached – this is upsetting

for all.

WACE Exam timetables

• Both Practical and Written exam timetables are available from SCSA now

• Non-negotiable – both practical (Sept/Oct) and written (Nov)

• Personalised version distributed shortly after 7 September – errors to be reported to MPB. Take careful note of SCSA student number!

WACE Examination timetables

• From Sept 7, students can check their ATAR examination timetables and personal details online at https://www.wace.wa.edu.au.

• To log on, they will need their SCSA student number and other personal identification information.

Term 3 Holidays

• Boys should have some time off: +/- one week

• They should also do some study! +/- one week

• Good time to get organised, make study notes, work in study groups, complete past papers, read Examiners’ reports – see CCGS Intranet

Term 4

• Week 1: Trial examinations returned• Week 1: Front covers of WACE examinations distributed• Week 1/2: Boys given print-out of final marks and grades –

need to check carefully and immediately• Weeks 1 and 2: boys must attend all lessons – revision

program• Week 3: Valedictory, study week (at home)• Teachers available to assist until end of WACE exams.

WACE examinations

• Arrive about 30 minutes prior to examination starting time – no entry if over 30 minutes late

• Must make a genuine attempt in exams or will lose grade (and possibly WACE)

• Some exams held at other centres – maps available from Studies Office

• Must take Personalised Timetable – entry ticket.

• Strict rules - no food, clear water bottles - see p38 onwards of Handbook for full list of rules (CCGS trains boys accordingly)

• Take care with pen – erasable pen cannot be read by machines that mark multiple choice answers

• Toilet breaks can become an issue (!)• Security and fairness paramount.

Marking of the WACE exams

• All examinations are double-marked

• All candidates are anonymous – identified only by their numbers

• Thorough, meticulous process: candidates’ efforts are honoured.

Sickness or Misadventure claims

• For candidates who suffer from a temporary sickness or accident close to or during WACE exams (see p34 of Handbook)

• Form available from Margaret Brophy

• Documentation must be provided as evidence

• Form must be submitted by Nov 27 at the latest.

• Available Thursday December 29 via TISC online

• MUST have student number to access

• Students usually have about a week to make changes to TISC preferences – this is reassuring to know!

• Results check available until 12 January – only to check addition and that response is fully marked – no re-marking of actual answers is done.

• Wed 18 January 2017 – offers process begins

• Some unis will negotiate – may be worth a try

• Final scaled score of 50 or over required in an English subject – but there are safety nets.
