Timeline Part 2 1980-1988 - Iran-Iraq war. 1990 - Iraq invades Kuwait, putting it on a collision

course with the international community. 1991 - Iraq subjected to sanctions, weapons

inspections and no-fly zones.

The Kurds in Northern Iraq sided with Iran and rebelled against Iraqi rule.

In 1988, Hussein ordered gas attacks on Kurdish Communities and the killing of all fighting aged men.

Saddam Hussein Remained in power. Used force to hold down protests from Shi’ite &

Kurdish rebellions. 1998 & 2002: Refused to allow United Nations

Weapons Inspectors into Iraq.
