Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) This is our first year implementing PBL and we are very excited about the positive impact PBL has already made and will continue to make in our school. As you may have noticed, our fabulous PBL posters are now located in various places around our school. These posters display a matrix for each setting, clearly stating the expectations for students. These are a great reminder for students, parents and teachers on what behaviours are expected at our school.

PBL Lessons

This term, our students will be involved in lessons which help students to understand the core values that our school expectations are based around. Our expectations are our STARS.

Show Pride

Take responsibility

Active learners

Respect Safe

Each fortnight in our newsletters, the PBL team will update families on the lessons that are happening in each classroom. This way parents can positively reinforce the value that is being taught at home.

PBL lesson Weeks 1 and 2: RESPECT

For a fortnight, teachers will be explicitly teaching lessons on the value ‘Respect’. Students will be taught to respect themselves, respect others and to respect property.

Learning Intention: Students will learn what respect looks like, sounds like and feels like.

Success Criteria:

I can describe what respect sounds like I can describe what respect feels like I can describe what respect looks like I can describe what isn’t respectful behaviour I can give examples of respectful behaviour

Students will understand that respect means to treat others as you wish to be treated.

We encourage parents to talk about our PBL lessons with their children and use this talk as a way to reinforce the value at home. We have provided a matrix that can be used by families at home to help promote and reinforce the value of respect. We hope you find it helpful.

Hello everyone! Term 3 is going to be a busy one, with many programs, activities, workshops and opportunities for you to be involved.

How can I be involved? 1. Volunteering – in the class room, on excursions, in Breakfast Club (8:30–8:55am). All volunteers working with children and young people are required to complete a Working with Children Check and gain a Working With Children Clearance, permitting you to work with children for a period of 5 years.

How to do the check, obtain a clearance and start volunteering: STEP 1 | Online application http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/child-safe-organisations/working-with-children-check - this will provide you with an Application number – write it down. STEP 2 | Go to your nearest Service NSW office - Liverpool Megacenta Shop R19 2–18 Orange Grove Road Liverpool – give them your number (there is no fee for volunteers). STEP 3 | You will be emailed a Working With Children Clearance – this takes the form of a number WWC#####. STEP 4 | Come to our school office with a printed copy of your emailed clearance and identification. Our Community Liaison Officer Cameron will be glad to help you with this, or answer any questions you may have. 2. Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) - Parents and carers have voice in our school. Everyone who joins is a general member and you can choose whether or not you wish to have a formal role such as President, Secretary, Vice President, Treasurer or be on a sub-Committee as Fundraising Coordinator or Assistant Treasurer. P&C assists the school by providing: feedback on school policies and activities fundraising assistance to raise resources for our school great ideas for positive changes in our school and its community The P&C also provides opportunities for parents and carers to be involved in their child’s education and wellbeing. It is significant that parent involvement in a child’s education makes a large contribution to the child’s success at school. Come along to our Coffee and Chat session on Wednesday 2 August 2017 to join the P&C and vote in the election of office holders (President, Secretary etc).

Many thanks to Mrs Hewitt for supervising our lessons and participating in this performance.

Well done Andrew, Luka, Stefan, Sparsh, Ajinkya, Rishi, Haylee, Sanja, Nathaniel and Ashour. You have worked hard and been ACTIVE LEARNERS. Your dedication shows your PRIDE in your work and our school. Watch our newsletter, website and fliers for information on what is happening in our school community and in the C4K “Community” Room. You are also welcome to contact me on 9602 8260 to have a chat about your concerns, suggestions and for information about our school and local services. BREAKFAST CLUB Open each morning from 8:30am in the C4K Room. SCHOOL BANKING School Banking takes place each Wednesday. Students bank books are collected from their classrooms, and returned to their teachers for return to students. If you would like to open an account for your child please speak with School Banking Co-ordinators any Wednesday in the C4K Room. CRUNCH N SIP The Crunch N Sip program is a highly successful initiative to encourage the children to improve their daily intake of fresh fruit and vegetables and to drink plenty of water. You can support this initiative by making sure that your child has their “Fruit Break“ snack every day and an extra bottle of water to have available in the classroom.

NO HAT- PLAY IN THE SHADE Does your child remember to bring their hat to school every day? Families are reminded that children need to have a hat to play in the playground with their friends. Children who do not have a hat are required to play quietly under the shelter. LIVERPOOL NEIGHBOURHOOD CONNECTIONS- SCHOOL CANTEEN A variety of freshly made healthy snacks are made daily and available at recess and lunch. Watch the blackboard for fresh homemade soups and meals that may vary daily depending on season. Canteen lunch orders need to be placed by 9:00am. Children can get help with their homework sheets each Monday from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. Parents must attend to complete a registration form. Further information is available on 9600 0600.
