  • A Cycle

The Earth has a limited amount of water.

The water keeps going around and around.

This is called the water cycle and it happens again and again and again.

  • Parts to the Water Cycle

The water cycle has these parts. evaporaLon and transpiraLon condensaLon precipitaLon collecLon transp i raLon

    co l lecLon

  • EvaporaLon

EvaporaLon is when the sun warms up the water and turns it into a vapor or steam. The water vapor or steam leaves the river, lake or ocean and goes into the air.

  • TranspiraLon

TranspiraLon is when plants lose water out of their leaves.

  • CondensaLon

Water vapor in the air cools o and changes back into liquid, forming clouds.

    This is called condensaLon.

  • PrecipitaLon

PrecipitaLon happens when so much water has condensed that the air cannot hold it anymore.

The clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth as rain, snow, sleet, or hail.

  • CollecLon The rain, snow, sleet, or hail hits the ground, oceans, lakes, or rivers.

Some of it goes into the ground for ground water and some runs o.

Water runs together and collects in the oceans, lakes, or rivers.

  • The Cycle Starts Over

The water that collects starts to evaporate again.

And the water cycle starts over.

    CondensaLon

  • InstrucLons Conduct a discussion about the water cycle, emphasizing

quesLons that encourages the student to describe and discuss the lesson.

Prepare for the discussion by making visual support materials that supports the planned discussion. An example from Unity84 is provided. It shows the codes for asking the quesLon, along with possible responses.

Engage in any Q & A discussion by modeling your quesLons/statements and coaching the student with potenLal answers/statements.

Rather than adding lesson-specic words to the students pre-stored vocabulary, spell lesson-specic words (when you ask the quesLons) or use simple strategies, such as a lesson-specic manual word or a word bank, to model a way for the student to say the specic word, as needed.

  • DescripLve Discussion

What does it mean to have a limited amount of water? just so much, then no more

What happens in a cycle? something goes around and around something happens again and again something starts over

  • DescripLve Discussion

What happens during evaporaLon? sun warms up water water goes into the air water turns into water vapor

What happens during transpiraLon? water leaves plants

  • DescripLve Discussion

What happens during condensaLon? water vapor cools o makes clouds

What happens during precipitaLon? clouds get heavy with water it rains, snows, sleets, or hails

What happens during collecLon? water runs together goes into river, lake, ocean
