MISSION STATEMENT Temple Beit HaYam is a family of families connected by a noble history and an inspiring value system with Jews on the Treasure coast and throughout the world. We stand together as a Reform Jewish Congregation committed to Torah (life-long Jewish education), avodah (worship through prayer and observance) and gemilut chasadim (the pursuit of justice, peace and deeds of loving kindness). We provide meaningful religious, educational, cultural and social activities for all our members in a warm and inclusive manner. Through these ideals as well as those of social action and tzedakah, we look to add meaning to our lives and the lives of others.

The Wave 9

I hope that everyone is continuing to stay both healthy and safe during these trying times. It is Sisterhood’s hope that we will be able to be together in person come 2021. Here are a few things that we have coming up soon via ZOOM. The Sisterhood’s page on the Temple website has flyers and information, so please visit there often.

*November 12th from 6-8 pm…We have a Sip, Shop and Schmooze at So Unique Gallery Boutique (flyer on the website). Please call Jami Chaban if you are able to attend at 772-285-2871 (masks will be mandatory for everyone’s safety).

*November 19th at 7 pm…We have a Virtual Baking Event with Michelle Jampol as our Baking host. A flyer is on the website with the recipe/ingredients for everyone! A ZOOM invite will be emailed the week of the event.

*Sisterhood is working with Jewish Family Services again this year! Look for an email soon with “wish lists” for children of various ages. You will be able to purchase gifts for a child/children from the comfort of your home! Once the gift(s) are purchased, they will be sent directly to the JFS and then they will be wrapped and delivered to the children! A fantastic opportunity to help children, who otherwise will not have anything to open for the Holidays. Thank you again Ilene Goldstein for bringing this to Sisterhood!

*We will have our Chanukah Bazaar set up in November and appointments can be made to come shop for your Chanukah needs! Stay tuned for a flyer and more details too! Come shop as there will be LOTS available for everyone to enjoy!

*On behalf of the Sisterhood Board, we wish everyone a Happy (early) Thanksgiving and Holiday Season! We will look forward to seeing everyone in person, soon.

Upside Down Pumpkin Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

Prep: 10 minsCook: 1 hrTotal: 1 hr 10 minsServings: 8 (large)Yield: 1 9x13-inch baking dish Preheat oven to 350 F

•Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with wax paper; spray paper well with Pam. •Place all filling ingredients in mixer stand with beater attachment. •Beat on medium speed occasionally scraping down sides of bowl until well combined. •Pour pumpkin mixture into prepared pan. •In another bowl, add cake mix, melted butter and 1 cup chopped pecans; mix until combined. Final mixture will resemble a putty. •Roll mixture into 2-inch balls; flatten and lay over pumpkin filling in all areas. •Bake at 350F for 50-60 minutes until top is golden brown, edges and most of center is firm and knife inserted in center comes out clean. Watch closely during last 15 minutes of baking as you don’t want cake topping to burn. •When done, take pan out of oven and allow cake to cool in pan completely (~3 hours). You can also put in fridge to speed up cooling.

While cake is cooling, prepare frosting.

•Whip cream cheese on medium speed for for 1-2 minutes. •Add powdered sugar and mix on medium speed until well incorporated.•Add vanilla, Cool Whip and finely chopped pecans. Mix well on low speed. •Flip completely cooled cake onto a platter or rectangular cake plate. •Frost all cake sides with cream cheese mixture. •Sprinkle remaining 1 cup chopped pecans over top of frosted cake.

Enjoy at room temperature or cover and refrigerate. All leftovers should be stored in fridge.

Note: You may also freeze after cake has completely cooled. Do not frost! To defrost cake, leave cake out at room temperature for several hours or in fridge overnight. Then either serve with a dollop of whipped cream on top or frost. Either way, it’s delicious! Heat oven to 350 F.

Pecan Cake Topping:18.25 ounces yellow cake mix1 cup pecans, chopped 1 cup butter, melted

Frosting:18 ounces cream cheese, softened 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar1 teaspoon vanilla 12 ounces Cool Whip1 cup pecans, chopped

Pumpkin Filling: 29 ounce can pumpkin purée (NOT pumpkin pie filling)2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spicePinch of salt1 3/4 cups white sugar3 large eggs12 ounces evaporated milk

Shalom from the ECLC!

We have had a fun and safe fall full of learning and exploration! We have been able to maintain our COVID free campus thanks to our wonderful families and staff. We have spent lots of time learning about the season and are busy preparing for our Virtual Thanksgiving performance and raffle coming up. We had a blast celebrating Simchat Torah in a safe and socially distant way with Rabbi and Cantor. The month of October was a busy one for us and we wanted to end it with some fun! We chose to have a Pajama Party Virtual Shabbat! Check out the cute pajamas and fun activities from last month!
