But then:

However, hope is back again!
Also becauseEurope still wants to lead global Climate Action

Corona vs CO2

Virus endangers grandparents. CO2 endangers grandchildren.

We need both:
Corona changed everything –we need economic recovery.
Climate protection remains a major challenge for our planet.

What does the H2 sector need?
88
(ii) Large companies which were planning major
investments in clean technology to abandon or
severely scale-down these plans
(i) Innovative companies to suffer a major shortage of
liquidity
(iii) investors less inclined to finance the planned
growth of the sector
Short term action
needed to stabilize the
sector and preserve
jobs
Restore long-term
confidence to keep private
investment flowing
Incentivize continued
investment in clean
energy solutions
(including hydrogen)
Who affected and what is at risk?

How will the COVID-19 affect H2 sector
91
Hydrogen Europe surveyed its members:
What can be done?
92
1. Clear and immediate signals that, despite the current crisis, European Climate and Environmental
objectives will be maintained and even raised.
2. Clear policy support signals for the hydrogen industry. The impact of this cannot be overstated
and its cost is low.
3. Link bailouts / financial support to strong commitments in terms of decarbonisation in the short term
and medium term (5-10 years).
4. Directly support the hydrogen value chain by compensating for short term revenue loss.
5. Provide certainty on the continuation of the European research and innovation partnership on
Clean Hydrogen with increased budget and scope.
6. Immediately unlock first commercial markets for green hydrogen through
- market incentives/regulation (increase renewable energy share quotas in RED II, implement quota
for clean/green aviation fuels, etc.)
- and public funding (e.g. ETS Innovation Fund, IPCEI, Carbon Contracts for Difference, etc.).
