SUNDAY NOTES

A brief summary of key topics from the March 2014 Board of Directors Meeting:

FUNDING THE MISSION task force provided their interim recommendations to the Board. This school-focused team looked at how best to provide top quality education at a price that can be afforded by both the congregation and the parents. The task force had a number of good ideas which will be enumerated in the minutes with the goal of achieving a proper balance between parent, congregation, fund raising, and 3rd party contributions toward each child’s education. A final recommendation will come at a future date. Your prayers and input are needed on this topic and can be provided to Lee LeRoy (task force chair), Tim Arnold (School Policy Committee chair), or Henry Pahlkotter (Principal).

LEADERSHIP BEST PRACTICES learned by Pastor Weis in a conference of forward thinking evangelical LCMS leaders was shared with the Board. Some key themes that resonated were to have a clear mission, focus on needs of the people (both members and the community), leverage web and video technology, and form the right team for the mission. The Pastor and Board will take all of these to heart as we seek to move the Lord’s church forward!

LAWNDALE CROSSINGS PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT reported on significant progress on the community garden initiative with a team in place and definite plans to start it up this year. Some initial discussions have occurred regarding school facility expansion

needs and possibilities. Plans were reviewed with Saginaw mayor and city manager, and with Saginaw township officials with positive feedback.

GENEROSITY of God’s people at Peace continued to be strong in January and February… tracking pretty close to budget needs. Initial look at next year’s Financial Ministry Plan does pose challenges. Pastor Weis and the staff are taking early steps to ensure we are not planning for more than we have available; along with stretch goals if we are blessed with the additional resources we hope for! We must all continue to seek God’s guidance for our own giving.

CONGREGATIONAL ASSEMBLY is planned for Tuesday, May 27, 6:30pm. Key topics include: Church, School, Foundation, and Finance Ministry Updates; more information on the Lawndale Crossings Initiative; and an opportunity to vote on the Financial Ministry Plan and to elect new members to the Boards of Elders and Directors. We hope many will take advantage of this opportunity to learn what’s going on and voice their input.

BOARD MINUTES will be posted at the Peace Website www.peacesaginaw.org. You can also request a paper copy from the church office.

*************** Mites - This weekend we’ll be collecting our mites for the missions supported by Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Please bring your loose change and/or currency and deposit it into the large mite boxes located at the Welcome Center. Lots of little mites add up! Portals of Prayer for the months of April through June, 2014, are now available at the info center of the church.

Sunday Adult Bible Study at 11am in Church Parlor Continues ...

Topic: “Stuff They Didn’t Teach Me in Sunday School about Matthew and Mark”

The 400 year period of transition between the Old and New Testaments witnessed significant changes in Israel’s history and cultural development. During this time,

superpowers like the Persians, Greeks and Romans were the dominant geopolitical players in the regions of the Mediterranean and the Near East. In Palestine, groups like the Pharisees, Sadducees, Zealots, Essenes, and others filled the stage, vying for local

power and prestige. Into this milieu comes Jesus, the Word Incarnate, who --- along with His disciples --- would change the world forever. Join Bruce Wurdeman from the

Lutheran Hour ministries as he bridges the gap between the Old and New Testaments and launches into the Gospels, beginning with the books of Matthew and Mark.

Adult Bible Study - Opportunities to Gather, Grow, & Go

As disciples at Peace we all have an opportunity to join a small group to help one another grow In Christ. There is a list of currently open small groups available in the Info Center in the lobby of the church, in the

church office, or you may visit the website “peacesaginaw.org” to view the list of Bible studies/small groups available and sign up on line. All these groups would welcome you to come and

visit them!

You are welcome to use that room or the sanctuary anytime church doors are open. Easter Offerings: During the Lent & Easter season, it is encouraging to see both new and familiar faces at our worship services.
