details with the new “tweet bot” a Twitter service. The Mpesa service allows the transfer of up to KES 140,000 from one phone number per day and will be available to people in Kenya and other
countries where Mpesa is available. Passengers will be required to use the Pay Bill option under Mpesa. The business number assigned
to Virgin Atlantic is 672672 (this corresponds to the VS672 flight number that operates from Nairobi to London). Passengers will then be required to input their account number, which is the 6-digit booking reference that comes with every ticket.Normal Mpesa rates will apply and the airline will not charge any other costs.

UAP Insurance has made the first payment to its
SalamaSure claimant, turning a new page in insurance underwriting. This was to Mr. Raphael Macharia, involved in a road accident and later hospitalized. Mr. Macharia said: “I had an accident when I didn’t have money. Interestingly, the money came in while a church group was praying for me.” Thanking UAP officials who went to his house in Nairobi’s Kayole estate, Mr. Macharia said his
experience with UAP SalamaSure policy has changed his perception about insurance. “I have been thinking that insurers

Packard (HP) today signed a USD400,000 (KES37m) systems contract with Chase Bank.The bank, which is undergoing technological advancement in its core banking systems, will benefit from having various reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) features to sustain its sixteen branches located in strategic urban and peri-urban centers within the country.

This follows the signing of a partnership agreement between the Safaricom owned mobile commerce platform and the fast food chain. The payment system will apply at both the tills at the various outlets and also for home deliveries where
customers can order and pay through M-PESA.

Launched last week, the Bahati Ridge will be a countryside
gated community estate providing residence to 337 families. Some 95 acres have been devoted to the construction of Bahati Ridge, a gated estate that will have full amenities. The focus of the real estate, a farm for 37 years, is to provide new homes,
across cottages, villas, town houses, bungalows, together with amenities including a shopping mall, school, business office park, medical centre, club house, conference hall and a hotel, on the former farm land. Joseph Kibe, chairman
of Bahati Ridge Gated Community said Kenya has enough land for various activities including housing. The constraints holding us back is not lack of land because we have ample of it. All that we need is to plan accordingly for our needs; for homes to stay in, learning institutions and farming. Kibe rooted for more innovative ways of meeting
the target for homes, saying postponing the need will not solve the problem of the un housed. Kibe said construction of homes should be encouraged much outside the cities to ensure people get a serene lifestyle. “Countryside
living offers huge bonuses for middle class families, in easily accessible schools, less congestion, clean air and better quality of life. But it also presents a real solution to the current squeeze that is threatening our development future,” he said. According to the United Nations Population Centre, half of world’s 7 billion live in urban areas. This
will have increased to 60 percent in the next 25 years. Already Kenya falls short of the target of building 150,000 homes a year as developers are building only 30,000 houses. “If we don’t
build houses, there cannot be enough good homes for Kenyans. That means we cannot house our growing population, and we shall not move away from poverty towards becoming a developed nation,” Kibe said.
