The WHY behind Fresh Startby: Pastor James L. Henley, Jr.
As we prepare to celebrate another year of this ministry’s existence, we also reflecton all that has happened since we held our first service on November 7, 2004; thefirst person was baptized on July 27, 2005, and the first couple was married on
January 1, 2006. We assisted victims of hurricane Katrina, providedfinancial assistance to those in need and have done our best to bring
comfort to those in sorrow. Above all else, we strive to spread the Gospel. Our desire in everything done by Fresh Start is that someone may cometo know Christ – for the first time or in a closer more intimate way.So as we celebrate years gone by, we are reminded and thankful thatwe are indeed new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5: 17).
Individually and collectively as a body of believers with each new day,we get a Fresh Start.

A recent sermon series – Handle Your Business –urged everyone to face life’s issues headon without fear or delay. Indeed, everything we need to sustain us is within reach. In thebook of John, Jesus speaks clearly on the subject: “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, itis to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come toyou; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” John 16:7 NKJV He, the Holy Spirit, is describedin Scripture as the Helper. He does not walk for us. Rather, he walks with and leads us.More importantly, he will never leave or forsake us though we routinely ignore him. Heprovides grace in our time of need, strength for the day, confidence for tomorrow, directionin the dark, company when we’re alone, light in the dark – and whatever we need is alwayswithin reach. It is his to supply and ours to use. Don’t ask yourself “What do I lack?”.Instead, ask, “What am I doing with what I have?”
Everything you need is within reach. Handle your business!

WHY HE ATTENDS FRESH START:
It is just like a family here. Everyone is nice and kind. Thereis always someone here who is willing to help you. Thereason I came here – I would see Rev. Henley in the park andhe would say: “Y’all scared to come to my church?” So Imade up my mind that I was coming here because I waspassing by the church everyday. So I said, “I’m going tomake that my church and I have been happy since then.”
HER MINISTRY: Mother Davis routinely telephones Fresh Start members to offer a scripture and words of encouragement.
