Week 28/5/18
From the Principal’s Desk Zone Cross Country
This Friday 1st June the Zone Cross Country will be held at Corndale Public School. Congratulations to Blythe Crane for making it to this level and GOODLUCK for Friday.
We look forward to hearing how he goes. Jolly Phonics Training
Mrs Emily Crane will be attending training next Thursday 7th June in the Jolly Phonics Program. We as a school have identified this training as being highly beneficial for a number of our students. This program gives a deep understanding of phonics and uses a
multi-sensory approach to help students remember their sounds. We are very excited about this training. On return Mrs Crane will share this knowledge with all other staff
members so we can support our students in this area. New Sun Shade
We have ordered two new sunshades which are smaller and lighter than our current one. We hope this will arrive in time for our athletics carnival.
Endless Praise Visiting Performers Thursday 14th June Endless Praise will come and perform for us. This is a whole school
event that the students have really enjoy in the past. The singing voices of this group is quite amazing.
2018 Great Endeavour Rally
Wiangaree Public School has been very lucky to be invited to cater for the Great Endeavour Rally which will travel through
Wiangaree on Saturday 16th June. This charity car rally’s mission statement is to make a real difference to the lives of people
with a disability along the Rally route. The journey starts on the sunny Gold Coast and crosses the finish line in the beautiful
coastal town of Yamba after 8 days of a Southern Safari adven-ture like no other. We are having a catering meeting on
Wednesday 30th May at 3.30pm in the school library. We are expecting to have 120 hungry people to feed so many helpers will be needed.
Trading COLOURSS Last week we had a wonderful exchange with COLOURSS stu-
dents attending Wiangaree PS for the day. We celebrated Sim-ultaneous Story Time and also participated in classroom activi-
ties and athletics. These days are valuable opportunities for our small schools to pool resources and staff and allow students to
join in with a larger cohort, build friendships and simply have fun. This was a very successful and enjoyable day. Our next
Trading COLOURSS will be NAIDOC Day being held at Ruken-vale PS on July 5th. Regards Kathryn Clark

Country Energy Power Pole Painting. Last Friday we travelled to Kyogle to start the painting of
our four power poles outside the Information Centre and outside Caltex. Students had a wonderful time creating
their designs. We managed to prep the poles and get the base colours on. I would like to thank our parents who
came along to help. Thank you, Emily, Bec, Julia and Shenika. We continue our painting TOMORROW in
Kyogle. Please ensure your arrangements are still the same as when the notes were returned. We will leave school at
9.15am and return about 1.30pm. We at Wiangaree have been so very lucky to utilise Rebecca O’Meara’s talent and expertise to help our
students design and paint four power poles in Kyogle. The
process the students have gone through to develop these designs has been fantastic. Students have learnt skills in
researching, tracing, stencil making and colour selection. The students work was then photographed and with the
aid of an ipad Rebecca is able to overlay the pictures to join two or three students work together. This resulted in the
final designs being created. The finished product will look like the centre images shown above.
This valuable experience is an exciting way to bring creative arts to the Kyogle Community and something our school
can take pride in. Our local school students are making a colourful impact on the streets of Kyogle and
demonstrating real talent.

P&C News
LUNCH BOX CHECK IN
Easy Sushi: Line ice cube tray with glad wrap & prepare in-
gredients.
Press toppings (cucumber, avocado,
shallots, chicken etc) into bottom
of moulds & fill with rice. Chill before serving.
TIP—Freeze leftover dips into ice cube trays. Then you can
pop a cube out into a container & serve with some veggie sticks or rice crackers in the lunchbox.
Stopping Brown Apples
Apples are a lunchbox staple, but kids can be picky about cut apples when they go brown. Here are some tips to keep those apples
pieces crunchy & white.
- use a sharp knife
- brush or dip apple slices in lemon juice
- soak slices in salt water - 1/2 tsp in 2 cups water, about 3 mins
