America's top car collectors and more than a dozen auto racingcelebrities came to Newport , Rhode Island for the William K.Vanderbilt, Jr. Concours d'Elegance at the Newport Mansions. Theevent honored modern racing legends Dan Gurney and Sir StirlingMoss with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contributions tomotor sports.
The three-day celebration of all things automotive included legendarydrivers, competition cars, and grand classics. The festivities benefitedThe Preservation Society of Newport County, one of the nation'slargest private custodians of National Historic Landmarks, includingThe Breakers (1895), Marble House (1892) and Chateau-sur-Mer(1852), which hosted the various Concours events. Dan Gurney andSir Stirling Moss each received the first annual William K Vanderbilt,
Jr. Awards for Lifetime Achievement at The Legends of RacingDinner on Friday, July 27 at The Breakers. The awards celebrated"Willie K" Vanderbilt's motor sports achievements, as a world landspeed record holder in 1904 and founder of the Vanderbilt Cup races.
"Dan Gurney and Sir Stirling Moss are among the greatest racers ofall time, and we are absolutely thrilled to have them join us for thispremier event," said Preservation Society CEO and ExecutiveDirector Trudy Coxe.
