1 Alleluia! Christ is Risen! The Lord is rise indeed! Alleluia! Dear Friends, The days of the Easter season often are called “The Great Fifty Days of Easter.” And, indeed, here at Christ Church these days of Easter are truly great! We began this season with a glorious celebration of the Easter Vigil, followed by joyful worship on Easter Sunday. And, we continue to rejoice and give thanks for our Risen Redeemer as we move through these Great Fifty Days from Easter to Pentecost. Beginning my work with you during this joyful season has been such a blessing! I thank each and every one of you for all that you did to make our Holy Week and Easter so special and meaningful. And, of course, we are all grateful to Father Ben Badgett for leading and guiding us through those wonderful celebrations. I am also deeply grateful for all you have done to make our transition to Bowling Green and Christ Church as smooth as possible. We have felt so very welcomed! We so enjoyed the beautiful welcome basket. And, Wow! The “pounding” was just overwhelming! Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated! And as we continue on in the season of Easter, the month of May is shaping up to be full of the joy of the Risen Lord! Our confirmands have been hard at work, preparing for confirmation by Bishop White during his visit to Christ Church on May 10 th . Their work is a work of spiritual discernment that will guide them in claiming and committing to a life of faith in Christ Jesus. We all share in this very important work by praying for our confirmands and offering them words of encouragement and support. Sunday, May 17 th will be the last day of Sunday School for this academic year. On this day we will honor our high school Seniors and thank all of our teachers for all they do to help form our children and youth in lives of faith. The Great Fifty Days of Easter ends with the grand finale of Pentecost. On Pentecost, we remember and celebrate the birth of the Church. And I’m so excited about the butterfly release! Seeing these symbols of the Resurrection moving out into the world surely will be a beautiful reminder of how we are to take the good news of Easter out into the world. Yes, the Great Fifty Days are an exciting time for Christ Churchnot because of activities and events, but, rather, because those activities and events offer us a myriad of opportunities to experience the risen Lord. May typically is a busy month in all our lives, but I hope that you will make a special effort to be with us so that you might be touched by God’s transforming power and love in Christ Jesus. Alleluia! Christ is Risen! The Lord is rise indeed! Alleluia!

Dear Friends,

The days of the Easter season often are called “The Great Fifty Days of Easter.” And,

indeed, here at Christ Church these days of Easter are truly great! We began this season with a glorious

celebration of the Easter Vigil, followed by joyful worship on Easter Sunday. And, we continue to rejoice and give thanks

for our Risen Redeemer as we move through these Great Fifty Days from Easter to Pentecost.

Beginning my work with you during this joyful season has been such a blessing! I thank each and every one of

you for all that you did to make our Holy Week and Easter so special and meaningful. And, of course, we are all grateful

to Father Ben Badgett for leading and guiding us through those wonderful celebrations.

I am also deeply grateful for all you have done to make our transition to Bowling Green and Christ Church as

smooth as possible. We have felt so very welcomed! We so enjoyed the beautiful welcome basket. And, Wow! The

“pounding” was just overwhelming! Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated!

And as we continue on in the season of Easter, the month of May is shaping up to be full of the joy of the Risen

Lord! Our confirmands have been hard at work, preparing for confirmation by Bishop White during his visit to Christ

Church on May 10th. Their work is a work of spiritual discernment that will guide them in claiming and committing to a

life of faith in Christ Jesus. We all share in this very important work by praying for our confirmands and offering them

words of encouragement and support.

Sunday, May 17th will be the last day of Sunday School for this academic year. On this day we will honor our

high school Seniors and thank all of our teachers for all they do to help form our children and youth in lives of faith.

The Great Fifty Days of Easter ends with the grand finale of Pentecost. On Pentecost, we remember and celebrate

the birth of the Church. And I’m so excited about the butterfly release! Seeing these symbols of the Resurrection moving

out into the world surely will be a beautiful reminder of how we are to take the good news of Easter out into the world.

Yes, the Great Fifty Days are an exciting time for Christ Church—not because of activities and events, but, rather,

because those activities and events offer us a myriad of opportunities to experience the risen Lord. May typically is a busy

month in all our lives, but I hope that you will make a special effort to be with us so that you might be touched by God’s

transforming power and love in Christ Jesus.

May the joy of the Risen Redeemer be with you all in the Great Fifty Days and beyond!

Opportunities for Study & Service

Classes on Sundays at 9 am The Bread of Angels class continues the study of theological issues and topics through works chosen collectively by members of the class. This pursuit of knowledge and enhanced awareness comes from books, mass media formats, guest speakers, and any venue appropriate to the study and understanding of Christianity and religious practices as they relate to each of us and to the broader world of our day. Poetry, music, philosophy, and novels are only a few of our resources, and we are anxious for others to join us and to bring ideas and suggestions on how we might come to a greater appreciation of the issues and topics we identify and pursue. Upcoming discussion topics include the book of James and the writings of Bishop Spong.

The class meets each Sunday morning in the Cates Lounge at 9:00 am. All are welcome: bring a cup of coffee, an inquiring mind, and an eagerness to be a part of this community within the broader Christ Episcopal Church community. We think you will find it a Joyful Community!

Study of the Psalms

Led by Ken Casey

Meets in Conference Room

9-9:45 am

The Psalms date back far into history. They have been

prayed in many different contexts in Solomon’s temple,

in exile, in the second temple, in monasteries and in

churches. Given these different times and situations,

how can we make use of them today? The class will

study the psalm appointed for the service that day and

also one other selected Psalm. The goal of the class is

to better pray using the Psalms. (This class does not

meet on the First Sunday of the month)

.

Lay Visitation Ministry

The Lay Visitation Ministry is progressing in its

development. Again, this ministry is to be an adjunct and

assistance to our clergy. There are four subgroups as

noted below. If you would like to explore your giftedness

in one of these ministries, please contact the person

listed.

LAY EUCHARISTIC VISITORS MINISTRY

parishioner family members who are in the hospital or

other medical facility. Contact Kellie Mysinger at (270)

CARING CONNECTIONS MINISTRY

This ministry is to care for and connect with those of our

parish family who are unable to be with us for worship

services or other weekly activities. These are men and

women who are home-bound or in a nursing facility.

These are often persons who have been an integral part

of our parish family. Contact Miliska Knauft at (270) 901-

0079 [email protected]

GREETER/NEWCOMER MINISTRY

According to Monarch Watch, each fall, hundreds of millions of monarch butterflies migrate from the US and

Canada to mountains in central Mexico where they wait out the winter until conditions favor a return flight in the

spring. The monarch migration is truly one of the world’s greatest natural wonders yet it is threatened by

habitat loss at overwintering grounds in Mexico and throughout breeding areas in the US and Canada.

In an effort to better care for God’s Creation, the Garden Committee has teamed up with the Children’s Ministry

to create a Monarch Butterfly Waystation. Monarch Waystations are places that provide resources necessary

for monarch butterflies to produce successive generations and sustain their migration. For the past five years,

we have been working hard to establish the garden beds to meet the requirements for becoming an official site

on the National Registry of Monarch Butterfly Waystations. Three years ago, we completed our goal.

During Children’s Church throughout Eastertide, the children will be planting annuals and perennials to prepare

our gardens to attract the butterflies. Children should dress appropriately for digging in the dirt (May 3, 10,

17). If you would like to get involved in this important ministry, contact Laura Goodwin: [email protected]
