The Wisdom of Spring: Remaining Open to Possibility
a Circle of Trust® Day Retreat
Spring teaches me to look more carefully for the green stems of possibility: for the intuitive hunch that may turn into a larger insight, for
the glance or touch that may thaw a frozen relationship, for the stranger’s act of kindness that makes the world seem hospitable again.

Program description:
Spring is a time when nature bursts back into life after the dormant rest of winter. In nature, it is a time of
rebirth and new growth. In our lives, spring can be a time of recognising new possibilities growing from
small beginnings, planting seeds and bringing dormant skills to life.
The gift of life, which seemed to be withdrawn in winter, has been given once again, and nature, rather
than hoarding it, gives it all away. There is paradox here, known in all the wisdom traditions: if you receive
a gift, you keep it alive not by clinging to it but by passing it along.
In this one-day seasonal retreat we will explore the things that are trying to emerge or are calling for
attention in your life and work. Through the lens of spring, we will use poetry, journaling, and times of
silence and dialogue to guide our reflections, and we will create space to (re)connect with the inner
wisdom that guides and sustains us, and gives meaning and a sense of purpose to our lives and work.
The Circle of Trust approach is based on the work of writer, teacher and activist Parker J. Palmer. It
offers safe space for self-reflection and shared exploration. This retreat is for you if you are looking to
develop your capacity and courage to lead a more authentic, meaningful and engaged life that is aligned
with your inner values.
Saturday, 30 September 2017 9.00am – 4.30pm Te Puna, near Tauranga
“The significant impact of the retreat stays with me in thought, feeling and attitude as well as in decisions and actions. In short, I have "come alive" and I am enjoying what that means for me day to day.”
Ian Thurlow, Christchurch, NZ
“It helped me to reprioritise my goals, shed new light on my views of study and strengthen my desire to become a teacher, and I left feeling uplifted, refreshed and nourished.”
JayJay Smith, 3rd year student teacher, Tauranga, NZ
“Themes were explored using silence, interactive reflection, the most wonderful poems, videos and a variety of activities. I really appreciated learning about ‘open and honest questions’ which I now use in my practice as a Clinical Psychologist.”
Veerle Poels, Whakatane, NZ
“Using a balance of nature and poetry, shared discussion and quiet time, the retreat offered a safe and honouring space for personal reflection.”
Chris Earp, Tauranga, NZ

Going on retreat:
We use the word ‘retreat’ not to suggest escape or withdrawal, but
rather as an opportunity to engage at a deeper level with your life
and work – time and space to pay attention to your identity and to
embrace the various roles and responsibilities that fill your life. It is
about engaging fully with yourself and the work you do.

We have only begun to imagine the fullness of life.
How could we tire of hope? So much is in bud.
We have only begun to know the power that is in us if we
would join our solitudes in the communion
of struggle.
So much is unfolding that must complete its gesture.
So much is in bud.
