Jack Everly conducts disco anthems including Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive,” monster rock hits including Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and singer songwriter ballads including Don McLean’s “American Pie.” Along with hits from The Bee Gees, ABBA and Billy Joel, the groovy songs from a decade of music come together for one dynamite symphonic performance!

Resident Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic and Music Director of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, Lawrence Loh is one of the most exciting young talents on the classical music scene today. He was brought to national attention in 2004, when he substituted last minute for Charles Dutoit with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, receiving enthusiastic acclaim from orchestra players, audience members and critics, alike. Since his 2005 appointment as Music Director of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, the orchestra has defined its reputation as one of the finest regional orchestras in the country. A champion of early childhood exposure to music, Loh created a family concert series dedicated to the youngest of audiences. He is active as an arts leader in the region, and is in demand as a guest speaker and clinician. As Resident Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Loh works closely with Music Director Manfred Honeck. He is active in the PSO’s Community Engagement and Partnership Concerts, extending the PSO’s reach into other communities. Notable concerts with the PSO include performances of Dvorak’s 7th Symphony, Mendelssohn’s 4th Symphony and Beethoven’s 7th Symphony featuring violinist Sarah Chang. He made his debut on the classical series conducting Handel’s Messiah in 2008. Loh also hosts and conducts the Fiddlesticks Family Series. He is an audience favorite in the PSO’s Concert Preludes lecture series, edits radio broadcasts, and makes public appearances. His association with the PSO began as Assistant Conductor in 2005-2006. He was promoted to Associate Conductor in 2006-2007 and to Resident Conductor in 2007-2008. Loh’s guest conducting engagements include his debut with the Seoul Philharmonic and a return to the Dallas Symphony. Other guest conducting appearances include the Malaysian Philharmonic, the Detroit Symphony and the San Angelo Symphony. He has conducted the symphony orchestras of Portland, Cedar Rapids, Colorado Springs, East Texas, Fort Collins, Fort Worth, Lubbock, Plano, Shreveport, Sioux City, Spokane and Tallahassee. He has also led Korea’s Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra, the Binghamton Philharmonic, the Yale Philharmonia, Omaha Area Youth Orchestra, Ottawa’s National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Dallas Chamber Orchestra. His summer appearances include the festivals of Bravo Vail Valley, Breckenridge, Las Vegas and Hot Springs, the
Kinhaven Music Academy, the Performing Arts Institute (PA) and the Carnegie Mellon Summer Strings Camp. Loh held the positions of Assistant and Associate Conductor of the Dallas Symphony from 2001-2005. He led them in a variety of classical and educational programs. Highlights include Brahms’ Requiem, Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances and Brahms’ 2nd Symphony. Prior to his Dallas appointment, Loh was appointed by Music Director Marin Alsop to be Associate Conductor of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. From 1998-2001, he conducted more than 50 concerts annually, including classical subscription, pops, education, family and outreach programs. While in Denver, he was Music Director of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra. He served as the Interim Director of Orchestras and Head of the Orchestral Conducting Program at Denver University’s Lamont School of Music in 2000-2001. In 1998, Loh received his Artist Diploma in Orchestral Conducting from Yale University, earning the Eleazar de Carvalho Prize, given to the most outstanding conductor in the Yale graduating class. During his years at Yale, he was the Assistant Conductor of the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and Apprentice Conductor of the Hot Springs Music Festival. He received further training at the world-renowned Aspen Music Festival and School and has additional degrees from Indiana University and the University of Rochester. A dedicated teacher, Loh held the position of Associate Instructor in Music Theory at Indiana University and, that of Teaching Assistant at Yale University in Advanced Hearing, Conducting and Orchestration. He was also the Guest Curator at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science for “What Makes Music?” an interactive exhibit. Loh was born in southern California of Korean parentage and raised in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He and his wife Jennifer have a son, Charlie, and a daughter, Hilary.

John Goberman is probably best known as the creator of Live From Lincoln Center. Now in its 35th season, this award-winning series of television specials has brought the finest of the performing arts to American audiences. To produce the series, Goberman developed the video and audio techniques and technology by which concerts, opera, ballets and plays can be telecast during live performances without disruption of performers and audiences. He has produced more than 200 national performing arts specials with the constituents of Lincoln Center, from the New York City Ballet to the New York Philharmonic with programs ranging from Genius has a Birthday: Stravinsky and Balanchine to Marsalis on Armstrong. As Executive Producer/Television for Lincoln Center, he has produced a companion series, Backstage/Lincoln Center, as an introduction to the performing arts including “This Old Cello,” with Yo-Yo Ma and “Stagefright” with Luciano Pavarotti. Goberman is also the creator of a new form of film/concert presentation, Symphonic Cinema, performing 20th-century symphonic works composed for film and orchestra, consisting of the film classics Alexander Nevsky and Scenes From Ivan the Terrible, selected offerings from Hollywood films in the presentation of A Symphonic Night at the Movies (A Night at the Oscars, Great Loves of the Silver Screen, Screen Classics, Hitchcock, Gotta Dance! and Rodgers and Hammerstein at the Movies) and the latest additions, the
full-length feature films Wizard of Oz and Psycho. He co-produced the theatrical film, Distant Harmony, Pavarotti in China, and has made films for museums across the country, ranging from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the Mariners’ Museum. He has produced numerous opera, ballet and concert telecasts from major performing arts institutions both here and abroad and has produced The White House: In Tune with History, a film for PBS about music at the White House. For his work on public and commercial television, Goberman has received 13 National Emmy Awards; 3 Peabody Awards; 8 Sigma Alpha Iota awards; the first Television Critics Circle Award for Achievement in Music and has 53 Emmy Award nominations. He received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Bridgeport and was cited by Symphony Magazine as one of the fifty most important people who have made a difference in the history of American music.

In addition to income from the Annual Fund, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is dependent on a ro-
bust endowment to assure its financial stability. Gifts from Legacy of Excellence programs are directed to
the endowment to provide for the PSO’s future. The Steinberg Society honors donors who have advised
the PSO in writing that they have made a provision for the orchestra through their estate plans. Mem-
bers of the Sid Kaplan Tribute program have made a planned gift to the endowment of $10,000 or more
to commemorate a particular person or event. Endowed Naming Opportunities for guest artists, musi-
cians’ chairs, concert series, educational programs or designated spaces allow donors to specify a name or
tribute for 10 years, 20 years or in perpetuity. For additional information, call Jan Fleisher at 412.392.3320.
