BBC sci-fi television programme Doctor Who premieres November 23, 1963Doctor Who tells the adventures of The Time Lord, a pseudo human-alien known as The Doctor. The programme ran successfully until it was cancelled in 1989. Sixteen years later, in 2005, it was revived and is currently listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest running (non-consecutive) science-fiction television series in history.

Worst international football team in history gets its first winNovember 24, 2011American Samoa, once the worst team in the world, won their first match after securing a 2-1 victory over Tonga in a pre-qualifying game for the 2014 World Cup. The team received the title ‘worst international football team in history’ after 16 years of 30 straight defeats and a 31-0 loss to Australia on April 11, 2001. Today, they rank 179 on FIFA’s list of 207 teams. Bhutan, San Marino and Turks and Caicos now rank 207th.

Scottish Parliament meets to protect the alleged existence of the Loch Ness Monster.November 25, 1960 The Scottish parliament met in response to reports of some young men dropping homemade bombs into Loch Ness in the hopes of scaring the Loch Ness Monster to the surface. While this would have resulted in the capture of the creature for study, the Chief Constable of the county, JR Johnstone, did not support the bombing.

ebab Café, still less than a month old, is the new kid on the restaurant block. The restaurant aims to provide great quality Mediterranean food at affordable prices.

Located on the historical Devon House property, the entrance is along the walkway leading into the courtyard, making it hard to miss.

Devon House has ample parking and security making the restaurant a convenient location for customers to choose to go and have a meal, whether it is before an ice cream dessert or in place of the ice cream itself. The intimate environment and friendly service soon has them forgetting their original plans and ordering from the menu.

With two brick ovens, Kebab Café’s pizza and pita are as authentic as it gets. Other delectable items on the menu include hummus (a spread made from cooked mashed chickpeas) and baba ganoush (an eggplant spread) to go with the pita, sandwiches, kebabs and their most popular item, gyros. Gyros are a roasted lamb and beef combination wrapped in a warm pita with vegetables and sauces; this has been a customer favourite.

Damian Chang, the manager of Kebab Café, saw where there was a demand for Mediterranean food and, with some good friends, decided to collaborate and offer a more authentic Mediterranean experience for Jamaican foodies to enjoy.

Market at the Lawn, the seasonal flea market event, happens this weekend and attracts vendors of all types from across the island, providing a unique shopping experience where customers can purchase

one-of-a-kind items. This open-air market makes a great place to shop for gifts and treasures. This Sunday marks the first for the holiday season and gives you the opportunity to get a head start on your Christmas shopping. “There are so many creative people in Jamaica and Market at

the Lawn gives them somewhere to showcase what they have to offer,” said Kaili McDonnough-Scott, organiser of the event. With more than 50 vendors, there will be a wide variety of shops, food and interesting people to meet including popular eateries and local favourites like Toppin Designz, Bartley’s Craft and Café Africa. Market at the Lawn offers a family atmosphere and with no admission charge, the more the merrier.

Market at the Lawn will be held Sunday, November 25 at Devon House from 10am-6pm.

What is your favourite thing to do on your weekends?Play music, definitely. I play music every single day, religiously. I love music very much and music is my soul and my life and everything I have comes from music, basically. A lot of what I have is because I’m a musical being, so if I’m not playing, I’m listening to music or thinking about music.

If you weren’t doing music, what would you be doing?Planting trees. I’m a farmer, too... I’m actually the real life Tarzan. We’re doing a thing called Rootz Releaf that is all about the environment. Our goal is to show everyone that good things take time to grow and that the environment is very important to us.

Where are some of the places in Jamaica you like to go on the weekend? The beach and the river. Frenchman’s Cove is my favourite beach and for the river, I love to go to Reach Falls - not the commercial part, but the hike up to the source of the river.

What do you suggest our readers do to have a great weekend?Jamaica is amazing. I’d say explore more. Work it out so that it doesn’t have to be high budget. By doing things together, you can save money. For example, a group of people can get a bus, group up and cook or run a boat. I’d encourage more of this because that’s the great thing about living in a tropical island - you have a host of different activities.

What’s your weekend philosophy?Erase time. What happens is that everyone loves Thursday because Friday is almost here. Then you love Friday because that’s the best day of the week. Saturdays are nice days to chill and then Sundays are a drag because Monday is the next day and everyone hates Monday. If you get rid of this concept, then every day can be like the weekend.
