Make Your Voice Count!

“Less than fifty-five percent of Arizona voters actually vote and that’s frighten-

ing. I hope that we can encourage everyone who is registered to vote.

It is so important and Arizona can do better on that score. “

~ Justice Sandra Day O’Connor

According to voteaz.net, “following the 2012 elections, Arizona ranked 45th in the nation for voter turnout. O'Connor House responded with The Great Voter Challenge to increase voter reg-istration, education and turn-out.” We are encouraging you to visit voteaz.net to find out about important 2014 election dates, and to get yourself registered to vote!

If you have moved, you must re-register.

The goal is to increase voter registration 10% in each city for the 2014 elections.

The Primary Election is held August 26 and the General Election is held November 4.

Don’t forget, your vote is your voice! Make it count!

The Silkworm (Cormoran Strike #2)—Adult Fiction (also in large print and audio) By Robert Galbraith

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days—as he has done before—and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappear-ance than his wife realizes. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were to be pub-lished, it would ruin lives—meaning that there are a lot of people who might want him silenced.

When Quine is found brutally murdered under bizarre circumstances, it becomes a race against time to understand the motivation of a ruthless killer, a killer unlike any Strike has encountered before... ~ From Publisher The Ghost of the Mary Celeste—Adult Fiction Audio (also in regular print) By Valerie Martin

In 1872, the American merchant vessel Mary Celeste was discovered adrift off the coast of Spain. Her cargo was intact, but the crew was gone. They were never found. While on a voyage to Africa, an unproven young writer named Arthur Co-nan Doyle hears of the Mary Celeste and decides to write an outlandish story about what took place. This story causes quite a sensation back in the United States, particularly between sought-after Philadelphia spiritualist medium Violet

Petra and a journalist named Phoebe Grant, who is seeking to expose Petra as a fraud. These three elements - a ship found sailing without a crew, a famous writer on the verge of enormous success, and the rise of an unorthodox and heretical religious fervor - converge in unexpected ways. ~ From Publisher Cooking with Amar'e: 100 Easy Recipes for Pros and Rookies in the Kitchen—Adult Non-Fiction By Amar'e Stoudemire

An information-packed cooking guide filled with tempting recipes, co-written by New York Knicks’ power forward Amar’e Stoudemire, and his charismatic, world-class chef Maxcel Hardy.

New York Knicks captain Amar’e Stoudemire may be on fire when he’s on the court, but the nearly seven-foot-tall hoops star didn’t know the first thing about lighting a fire. When his personal chef Maxcel Hardy began giving him informal

cooking lessons, the six-time NBA All-Star learned to become a comfortable, experienced cook able to whip up tasty, healthy dishes for his family. ~ From Publisher

The Life of the Automobile: The Complete History of the Motor Car—Adult Non-Fiction By Steven Parissien

The car has shaped the modern era more profoundly than any other human inven-tion. Its manufacture introduced mass-production to the world, bringing with it tar-mac, suburbs, and car culture. In this comprehensive world history of the most im-portant transport innovation of the modern age, historian Dr. Steven Parissien ex-amines the impact, development, and significance of the automobile over its turbu-lent and colorful 130-year history. He tells the story of the automobile, and of its creators, from its earliest appearance in the late nineteenth century - as little more

than a powered quadricycle - through the mergers and bailouts of the twenty-first century. Read-ers will learn about Andre Citroen and his Traction Avant of 1934, Ferdinand Porsche and the Volkswagen, Gene Bordinat and the Ford Mustang, among numerous other game changers and iconic vehicles. Bringing to life the flamboyant entrepreneurs, shrewd businessmen, and gifted engineers that worked behind the scenes to bring us horsepower and performance, The Life of the Automobile is a globe-spanning account of the auto industry that is sure to rev the engines of gearheads across the country. But above all, this book illustrates how the epic story of the car mirrors the history of the modern era, from the brave hopes and soaring ambitions of the late eighteen hun-dreds to the cynicism and ecological concerns we face more than a century later. ~ From Pub-lisher Duck Dynasty (Season 5) - DVD Starring Willie Robertson, Phil Robertson, Si Robertson & Jase Robertson

America’s most recognizable family is back for Season 5, and their DUCK DY-NASTY® is bigger than ever. From their home in Louisiana’s bayou, the Robertson clan has built a multimillion-dollar sporting empire manufacturing duck calls. But, true to their roots, they’ve never lost their taste for fun and adventure, or their cap-tivating Southern charm. See why they’ve earned a seat in homes across America and beyond. Watch as the boys at the warehouse continue to get Willie’s goat, Uncle Si’s antics never fail to amaze, and Phil and Miss Kay host a slumber party. Plus, the

Robertson clan gets even bigger as two new family members join the action — and stir things up. Daily life on the bayou may be mundane for some, but for the Robertsons, it remains anything but dull. ~ Product Description

Sunrise (Ashfall #3)—Young Adult Fiction By Mike Mullin

The Yellowstone supervolcano nearly wiped out the human race. Now, almost a year after the eruption, the survivors seem determined to finish the job. Communities wage war on each other, gangs of cannibals roam the countryside, and what little government survived the eruption has collapsed completely. The ham radio has gone silent. Sickness, cold, and starvation are the survivors' constant companions. When it becomes apparent that their home is no longer safe and adults are not fac-

ing the stark realities, Alex and Darla must create a community that can survive the ongoing dis-aster, an almost impossible task requiring even more guts and more smarts than ever — and un-thinkable sacrifice. If they fail . . . they, their loved ones, and the few remaining survivors will per-ish. ~ From Publisher

The Arizona State Library has made some changes to the collection of research tools available to you through the Pinal County Li-brary District.

The former Ebsco databases have now been replaced with those from Gale.

These databases, or research tools, are useful with assisting students and teachers with re-search projects. From elementary to college, they are helpful in providing students with re-liable, relevant, and scholarly information.

Some of the new homework-type names you might see are: Academic OneFile, Biography in Context, Britannica Library, and World History in Context.

Other tools that will be helpful in other areas will be Gale LegalForms and Chilton Library (auto repair).

We still have access to Ancestry Library for in-library use only.

In addition to the resources listed here, there

are several others that will be useful in the area of academics, careers, finances, legal mat-ters, genealogy, literature, and more. You are encouraged to take a look!

You can get to the these resources by one of two ways. You can visit Coolidgeaz.com/library, click on Online Resources, and then Access Pinal County Library District Databases.

You can also visit Pinalcountyaz.gov/library, then click on Research.
