THE WORKPAPERS

I {heart} a good audit. It’s an ad slogan I tore out of

a magazine at least a decade ago and it is still

hanging on my whiteboard. You know why I {heart}

a good audit? Because I always learn something, it

is what makes it good. Even if I have done that

same audit ten times; I meet someone new, I learn

a new way to find data, I find a new way to look at something, I get to

teach someone else what to look for. Even if it is the

same - it’s different. I guess you could say I am a

philomath (that’s a $10 word I got from Reader’s Di-

gest; it means someone who loves to learn). It’s prob-

ably also why I love to travel; I want to experience

something new and widen my view of the world.

I am so honored to serve as our chapter’s President this year. I have

watched so many great leaders serve in this position throughout my

career and I am proud to take my turn. I started volunteering for the

chapter way back in the early 2000’s when I asked to help with re-

viewing student scholarship applications (we had three!), which

turned into awards (I thought I was on the committee, turns out I was

the committee…), which lead to being on the board (I loved being

able to participate behind the scenes), which inspired me to take on

academic relations (my passion for our profession and my role at

COP as a recruiter motivated me), which lead to me being asked to

take a vacant officer role last year (thanks Matt!).

I would love to know, what inspires you? And how can I help you

learn something new?

Jon Smith is a Senior Manager in the Advisory

Presentation Summary:

Today’s intelligent automation innovations have the transformational potential to increase the speed, operational efficiency, cost-

effectiveness, control, and accuracy of daily business activities, and to

empower skilled human professionals to generate more impactful in-

sights, enabling smarter decisions more quickly. In an environment that’s changing at a faster rate than ever before, internal control func-

tions are finding new opportunities to mitigate risk through the use of

emerging technology. This interactive presentation will be to discuss intelligent automation use cases, brainstorm automation candidates

that exist within your internal control function, and provide insights into

the role of internal audit with respect to an automation program.

FROM TULSA INTERNATIONAL

AIRPORT Take interstate 244 West and after

downtown Tulsa follow the signs to-

wards Sand Springs, (64/51 also

known locally as the Keystone Ex-

pressway or the Cimarron Turnpike).

Stay in the right lane on 64/51 and exit

on the Gilcrease Museum Road and

then turn right. At the next traffic light

(Edison) turn right. Travel ½ mile and

turn left on Union Ave. Club entrance

is immediately on right.

FROM RIVERSIDE DRIVE Travel north on Riverside until you

come to Denver Avenue and merge to

the right. Once on Denver, travel ap-

proximately 1.5 miles to Edison and

turn left. Travel approximately 1 mile to

Union (you will pass the golf course on

the right). Turn Right on Union. Club

entrance is immediately on right.

FROM THE BROKEN ARROW

EXPRESSWAY (64/51) Travel Westbound on 64/51. After passing through downtown Tulsa the road curves right heading North. (Make

sure you stay on 64/51) Immediately after the curve start getting in the left lane to exit toward Sand Springs. (This

is kind of a bad spot traffic wise because you have to cross three lanes of traffic fairly quickly). After the Sand

Springs exit get in the right lane and exit on Gilcrease Museum Road and turn right. At the next traffic light

(Edison) turn right Travel ½ mile and turn left on Union Ave. Club entrance is immediately on right.

Chapter Achievement Program (CAP)

The Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) is an achievement/recognition pro-

gram for chapters in North America that uses points /credits to recognize chap-

ter activities that align with the North American Strategic Plan in three service

categories: Service to Members, Service to the Profession, and Chapter Re-

porting. There are many things members can contribute to helping the chapter

earn points.

Members and member companies who participate or perform the following ac-

• Receive a Quality Assessment for your audit shop

• Participate in a QAR quality review team (IIA and non-IIA sponsored)

• Published articles

• Junior Achievement Volunteer hours

• …and many more programs.

If you have participated in any of these programs, please contact Sarah Kuhn

to earn achievement points for the chapter and continue our tradition of excel-

lence.

Announcing the 2018-19 Chapter Achievements

The Chapter Achievement Program (CAP) measures success

based on different performance levels reached at year-end and

recognizes chapters that demonstrate a strong commitment to

consistently serving their members and the profession.

This story-based audience favorite will disrupt everything you thought you knew about fraud. Attendees will

learn why their assumptions are flawed regarding likely perpetrators, which detection tools are effective, and

which deterrence methods really work. The audience will learn effective data science techniques and how to

spot fraud that can’t be found by examining numbers. Find out why some of the most trusted investigative prac-

tices have been leading us off-course and how auditors and investigators unwittingly assist fraud schemes. Sci-

entific research is combined with Toby’s first-hand accounts in this powerful talk that exposes myths and the

dangers lurking in our assumptions related to this ever-growing threat.

Major Subjects:

• Effective data science for fraud investigation– finding meaning in your data

• Psychometrics - Behavioral profiling and psychological assessments

• Psychopathy and sociopathy

• Effective skepticism and evidence screening

• Why we overlook obvious red flags

• How assumptions make us less effective

Learning objectives:

Attendees will challenge superficial assumptions regarding fraud and deception and gain a deeper understand-

ing of effective cognitive tools to screen evidence, assess cultural influences, critically review investigative tools,

and recognize the relevance of criteria.

User Group ACL has Officially Rebranded to “Galvanize” Per their official release: “…we’ve evolved from “the analytics company” into an analyst-recognized risk management, com-pliance, and audit solution that unites all of these teams to a single platform.” ACL also acquired Rsam which focuses on analyzing vendor and IT risk and providing cyber security solutions for its customers. This merger presented the opportuni-ty they wanted for a new brand. You can find more information on the FAQ page, but a short excerpt from this highlights the important changes:

What’s changing?

• Our integrated platform is called HighBond. Think of it as the main platform that all our products live under. As of May 13, instead of aclgrc.com you will login at highbond.com.

• ACL Analytics is now part of ACL Robotics. This is our Analytics on premise software, plus our new Robots module, and machine learning functionality. Every Analytics customer with v14 has ACL Robotics.

• Analytics Exchange remains the same.

• All Rsam products remain the same.

As always, please contact Kerri Surdahl ([email protected]) if you have any questions or want to share

ideas at our ACL/Galvanize User Group meetings!
