The World’s Most Reliable Air Sampling Pumps
Introduction to GilianIntroduction to Gilian
• Gilian air sampling pumps are manufactured by Sensidyne in Clearwater, Florida.
• Product line includes personal and area air sampling pumps for the evaluation of worker exposure to airborne hazards during the work shift.
Air Sampling IntroductionAir Sampling Introduction
• Air sampling pumps draw air through collection media for the evaluation of worker exposure to a targeted substance during the work shift.
• Samples are collected using a filter cassette or sorbent tube then later analyzed in a lab.

High Flow vs. Low FlowHigh Flow vs. Low Flow
High Flow
• Flow rates from 1 - 4LPM• Examples:
– Lead– Asbestos– Dust
• Accessories– Filters– Cyclones– Impingers
Low Flow
• Flow Rates from 20 - 300cc/min
• Examples:– Hydrocarbon Solvents
(Benzene) – Chlorinated Solvents
(Methylene Chloride)– Alcohols
• Accessories– Sorbent Tubes – Charcoal Tubes
Low Flow AdapterLow Flow Adapter
• Provides constant low flow for GilAir-3 & GilAir-5
• Maintains low flow within ± 5% of set flow
• Single samples, adjust flow on the module.
Multi-flow Low Flow PumpsMulti-flow Low Flow Pumps
• Constant Pressure control allows two to four simultaneous samples using special manifolds.
• Constant (NEG) Pressure (-18” +/-3”) is maintained in the tubing.
• Flow rate is controlled with a needle valve on each tube holder.

The LFS Pump is adjusted to desired flow rate e.g. 70cc/mn, the needle valves V3 or V4 are adjusted to desired starting back pressure representing sample start with clean sorbent tube or media. Flow stabilizes as read on the flowmeter and Gilibrator, and is recorded. Then the technician slowly adjusts V3 or V4 increasing back pressure to replicate a loaded filter and end of the day buildup. The Flow is then checked again and verified to be within +/- 5% of initial flow setting. This is testing constant flow!
