Who are the Elks? The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America is one of the oldest and largest fraternal organizations in this country. Over its
147 year history, ELKS have distributed well over $4 billion in cash, goods and services. Currently, the Order spends more than $80,000,000 every year for benevolent, educational and patriotic community-minded programs in such fields as benefitting handicapped children, sponsoring scholarships, scouting, athletic teams, veterans' works, a national "Hoop Shoot" free-throw contest involving more than 3 million children, physical and occupational therapy programs and patriotic programs. Funding for the nationally and locally sponsored programs comes from the generous monetary donations of the membership and friends to the Elks National Foundation and local Lodges respectively.

The Chamber is off and running full speed ahead into the new year with new and exciting plans!Instead of temporary signs and banners that currently are displayed in the four-way intersection of Routes 202/118/35 and Commerce Street, we are very excited to announce the installation of an LED Community Message Board sponsored by the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce which will sit in between the sections of the brick wall in front of the Triangle Center. It will serve as an outlet for the Chamber to highlight local businesses and broadcast announcements. Once in place the new sign would contain mostly messages from town hall and emergency notifications. We are always on the “hunt” to find new and exciting ways to enhance this organization! Our next event is our 2017 Jilco/Yorktown Chamber of Commerce 2017 Home Lifestyle & Family Show at the Jefferson Valley Mall on February 18, 2017 from 11:00 to 4:00pm. Admission is free! Come see the latest in better living as well as new technologies that make your life better. This year there will be an extensive health and fitness section and an exciting “Restaurant Row” featuring local restaurants.Congratulations to our newest board members who were voted in at the January Board Meeting: Gary Raniolo, UBS Financial Services - Mitchell Group, Peter Lanza, Derosa, Rockefeller, Sohigian & Werdal, Inc., Pamela Hirsch, Landcor, Inc., Perry Gusikoff, Yorktown Autobody, Inc. and Tom Diana, Comfort Heating Fuel and Service, Inc.On Thursday, May 17, 2017, the Chamber will host “Yorktown’s Best of.…Awards Cocktail Reception” at Centrale Italian Kitchen & Bar at the Triangle Center in Yorktown, honoring Irene Amato of A.S.A.P. Introducing a New YCC Committee
THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE needs your support!!As most of you know the Chamber gives scholarships each year to deserving local high school graduates. Most of the funds come from donations from our members. We are gearing up for the 2017 fundraising effort and we need your support. Last year we gave out 6 scholarships with an aggregate amount of $10,000.00, and we want to do at least as well this year. We have one member – Burger King – who has agreed for the second year to run a fundraising event where a percent of their revenue for a day in May will go to the scholarship fund. We urge our other members to consider doing similar events. If this is not workable for your business, then please consider making a donation. This program is one way the Chamber shows its commitment to our youth and to the community at large. All those who donate at least $50.00 will be invited to the scholarship awards dinner at Little Sorrento’s restaurant in July. Please call the Chamber office if you want to schedule a fundraiser: 914-245-4599
