Nisargadatta Maharaj: Question everything, dont believe anything.

As you are about to go through this book pleasenote that nothing you are about to read is true. It is

merely words which represent things which do notexist.

Please do not all into the trap o words.

Recall two Archetypes, (Current in the ocean that

orm Waves, then oam, (the I, and bubbles). The First Archetype is o the Genie in the

Lamp. In this current the right words, (magicwords) must be said, (chanted) or the genieto appear and grant your wishes, (kind o likemantras).

The second Archetypical current is Using aTreasure Map to Search or the Buried Treasure.(kind o like a spiritual paths searching orenlightenment, the holy grail) o the spiritualquest.

Why is this important to remember as we treadthrough this series o books? Because all pointers

and metaphors are using words which representand describe things which do not exist. In short,Dont all into the words and language games.

Finally, be aware o regressed tendencyorming precognitive traps that oer pleasureand rewards or understanding and learning the

words and their meanings. This deeply imbeddedcurrent assures only more craving and a xationon learning more and more words to have moreand more experiences with the belie that bothexperiences and words/understanding will leadto the ultimate experience, termed some orm oEnlightenment.

Nisargadatta Maharaj: all experiences willlead you to is more experiencesexpect nothing

    rom experiences

As we will see Koans are designed to break the

language patterns, BUT, throw the thorn away, otherwise you will all into the trap o wordsand the joy o learning and experiencing theirmeanings.

InciSri Nisargadatta Maharaj is reminiscent o the ZenMasters o old. With dialogues representative o the20th century.Maharaj proposed Koan like Questionsand Enquires based and guided by the students who

came to see him.Maharaj oered questions in theorm o an Enquiry through ace to ace dialogue tobe contemplated within. And, when and i theEnquiry was taken in, like a virus it would bothdismantle and unpack belie system which cloudedyour view o reality, while simultaneously point-

ing you toward the reality o who you were. Andsometimes actually describe as best as possiblethe Absolute.

This was not a talent that he worked at, butrather a one shot straight shot, One consciousness,ONE MIND, without any need or interpretation.

It just happened, without orethought or consider-ation, (like everything happens), but appears nottoo.

The text , is words, and as words they representthings which do not exist. However when deliveredOne Mind-One Consciousness, the jolt can be quite

shocking and disorienting as a chuck o the illusiona veil alls away. For example the miss perception o

an I, or the sense o doership, or beingness. Theshock that I experienced which was sometimespainul, sometimes ecstatic, sometimes disorien-tating but always liberating. This experience odisorientation was representative o the I or sellosing its reerence point and location in the illu-

sion o space-time.The Keys below are a summation o both Zendelivered through the vehicle o Koans, and En-quires delivered in the orm o questions.

So as not to have to re-invent the wheel, TheKeys and Master Keys, (as they represent Keyswhich could open many locks) combine the bril-liance oAdvaita-Vedanta and Zen, along withNa-

garjunas Madhyamika Buddhism the Heart Sutraand Diamond Sutra. Joining these as the ocean, and updating the linguistic metaphors and pointersthus disabling the illusion o mind as a non-existentmirage.

It is through this disabling that the Absolute isrevealed or recognized as an indescribable vastness. In the vastness o the absolute the concepts oenlightenment-delusion, paths-yogas, and God it-sel, not to mention Consciousness-Emptiness, theWitness, and even Awareness all away as patches,

illusionary veils that appear to hide That whichyou are.

A No o t xad LicThe text which is to ollow contains a slightly high-lighted version rom a major work in Zen, called

Master Dogens 300 Koans. As I began the processI realized that by oering the Great UnravelingSeries there began to be enormous overlap. WhenI say overlap. I do not mean necessarily in thewords, but in what was being conveyed.

At that point it elt like a repetition and so thedirection o the book changed drastically. So insteado writing as in the previous work the exact samepointers, what I decided to do was to highlightabout eighty o theMaster Dogens 300 Koans and to

mark them as (MD) or Master Dogen.

From there the text evolved into a book o Keythemes that appear in some 650 Koans, and so aremarked accordingly. For example, (GG) GatelessGate, (BCR)Blue Cli Records), (BOS)Book o Se-renity. All Nisargadatta Maharaj quotes are clearlylabeled and all else as Enquiry Koans. For the Zen

Koans and Zen Sayings which are so generic, Imarked them just as Zen Koans, or Zen Sayings, eventhough there is no source, my prior educa-tional training demands I do my best to acknowl-edge and credit the voice.

Please note the many metaphors rom an earlier

time and culture have been updated with the intento making the material both clearer and more avail-

able to readers in 2010. I would also suggest thatthis is an ongoing process as culture and vocabularyare constantly changing.

When phrases appear in italics, (or repeatedseveral times) they are being emphasized, in a simi-lar way as Enquiry Koans.

With all this stated, the purpose o the text is tohighlight the pointers and descriptions with updatesso that the reader can ride on 21st century westernmetaphors rather then culturally dependent meta-phors which are 2500-1000 years old.

Moreover, there was an attempt made to or-ganize the Koans, Enquiry Koans, and Sayings tomake this more course-like. However this task be-came very dicult as so many Koans and Enquiresare pointing to, describing and unpacking so manydierent illusionary states simultaneously. Howev-er, what happened happened and what is to ollowemerges as it does.

As a nal mention onceMaharaj was asked aboutHinduism, and Islam and he replied, All o theseteaching are just words, reality is prior to words.

At the risk o being presumptuous, my takeaway rom that was, all pointers are words and lan-guage dependent. As words represent things which

do not exist. Thereore words and understandingsare not it.

Nisargadatta Maharaj:I you can orget it orremember it it is not you, thereore discard it.

o material it is important to mention what will bereerred to as Master Keys.

Master Keys like a Master Key which un-locks many doors here denotes a Key which per-vades throughout the enquiry process, and therebyis a Key ar greater than itsel which can pick many

locks and oer entrance.Master Keys will be mentioned throughout inplaces where their highlighting seemed appropriate.

hopeo realization can sometimes lieat the root othe problem.

Koans drive you deeper into the structures whichhold together the allacies o the conditioned mind

so they can disappear upon recognition.

Appreciate that words represent things which donot exist as a background precursor. This aords

the possibility o oering an understanding.BUT only as a temporary measure to deconstruct

In the Book o Serenity, Buddhas Second Nobletruth is re-interpreted rom The cause o sueringis desireto The cause o suering is the desire to

change things. We are discussing this because changeis a cornerstone o the conditioned mind.

Metaphorically, as children we are constantly toldto change and be dierent. The subtext in thisprocess is that we or an I can change, and bychanging onesel or other we will ultimately be

    satised.

This conditioned process lies so deep as toremain unseen driving and yielding hope pain and
