Indicating UnderstandingThere will be several times when I need to know if

you’re with me. I’ll ask something to the effect of “are you with

me?” or “is everyone good?”You have 37 seconds to discuss with the person

across from you how you think you should respond.

If you understand, give me a “boo ya.”

If you don’t, do not boo ya. Raise your hand and ask a question. THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS. But if you’d rather, you can ask me privately when I am not teaching.

Class EngagementYou will be graded on a daily and weekly basis on your conduct. Daily participation, weekly etiquette. These should be EASY 100s.

What does engagement look like to you?

Page 6: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

What it looks like to meStaying awake. Not leaning your chair against the cabinets.Participating in group or individual work. Not talking to your neighbor.Asking questions when you have one. Only talking when you have raised your hand and

I have called on you.

Page 7: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Ultimately, this is a respect issue, which we defined yesterday.

Not engaging in my class is disrespectful to me, and I have a zero tolerance policy for disrespect.

Daily Classroom Activities

Page 9: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Entering the classroomEvery day you will come in and get your journal

from the drawer. If you are a 7th grader, place your iPad in the bin. You will then go to your seat. At this time, you can talk QUIETLY with your

friends.

Page 10: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Teacher Attention SignalWhen I am ready for you to begin writing in your

journal, I will stand on “the tile”You’ll know the tile, because it’s marked with a big

XThis means you need to quiet down, and start

working on your journal assignment. This will be the signal to start or end any

assignment we do in class.

Page 11: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Journal AssignmentsEvery day, you will see a “we will” and “I will”

written on the board. You will also see a “warm up”After I give the start work signal, you will copy the

“we will” and “I will” statements in your journal and answer the warm up prompt.

Page 12: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

It will look like this:Date

We will _______________.I will ________________.

Warm up“Write the prompt here.” Answer the prompt here.

Page 13: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

DismissalThree minutes before the bell rings, I will allow

everyone to begin putting up their things. This includes returning your journal to the bin. I will

dismiss one row at a time to return their journal. This should be a quiet time. You may communicate

with others when necessary, but it is up to me if the class has gotten too loud.

I will dismiss you- not the bell- if the class is quiet and well behaved.

When you leave- push in your chair!

Page 14: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Dress CodeOnly applies to second period. We will do dress code check at the beginning of

class.Everyone will stand up, and I will quickly check

and address problems. Then we will continue class!

Performance Etiquette

Page 16: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Performance EtiquetteWhen performing, you will be fully engaged. This means:

Do not break character. Do not break the fourth wall (unless required by

text).Keep going, even if you feel silly! DO NOT GIVE UP!

I will never ask you to do something I’m not comfortable doing myself. So if you feel uncomfortable or aren’t sure how to do it, ask me, and I will be happy to give you my perspective.

Page 17: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Post-Performance EtiquetteWe will ALWAYS clap after someone performs.

This is out of respect. And how do I feel about respect?

I will then give feedback. Sometimes, I will ask for classroom critique. If you have

something to say about their performance, raise your hand and I will call on you.

If you have a suggestion for improvement, you must FIRST offer a compliment. You may then critique, but must follow the critique with another compliment. Not doing this is completely rude and will be dealt with

serious consequences.

Page 18: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

When it’s not perfectActing requires you to TRY something, and often

what we try isn’t perfect. Find someone with your eye color and spend 64

seconds talking about how we should respond to that.

Fail big, fail fast, fail better. When something wasn’t exactly what we hoped,

or a “failure,” we will do a fail bow, even me!

Page 19: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Group Work

Page 20: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

You’ve already done some of it!

I’ll assign you to find a partner or small group and you’ll discuss whatever I’ve asked you to.

You’re already pros at this!Everyone in the group needs to participate.Be prepared to respond to the class with what you

discussed.

Page 21: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Getting out of your seat

Page 22: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

We are moving!Where are the locations Ms. LeTourneau could be,

or need to have class?F3- where we are nowStagePortable

Let’s practice going and coming from there. Line up single file and walk SILENTLY down the

hall. Any noise and we come back!

Page 23: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

I need supplies! Most of the time, I will know when supplies are

needed and will give you instruction about getting them.

If you need something and we have started working (I haven’t mentioned providing the supply), raise your hand! I will come to you.

Page 24: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

I need to sharpen my pencil. If I am teaching, you cannot sharpen your pencil. When you come into class and get your journal,

make sure you have two pencils ready to use. Sharpen your pencil at the front of the classroom

before warm ups start. If I’m not teaching and you need to sharpen it,

raise your hand and I will more than likely let you. Sharpening your pencil is not an excuse to get out

of group or individual work!

Page 25: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

I need to go to the bathroom! No one will be allowed to go to the bathroom the

first and last ten minutes of class. If I’m teaching, I will not let you go to the

bathroom. If you have an emergency, and it’s not the first or

last 10 minutes AND I’m not teaching, you may raise your hand and ask permission.

If you continually ask to use the bathroom in my class, we will have a conversation about why and whether or not it will be allowed to continue.

Page 26: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

EmergenciesIf you believe you have an emergency, please

raise your hand and tell me you have an emergency.

If it’s something you aren’t comfortable sharing with telling the whole class tell me it’s an emergency and you want to tell me privately and I will honor that.

If you come to class knowing you’re not feeling well, tell me! I will either send you to the clinic or help make class as comfortable as possible.

Tardiness QUIETLY:

Sign the tardy binder, name and date only. Get your journal.

If we are still in warm up time, catch up as much as you can, but once we move on, you must as well. Finish on your own time.

I follow Kimbrough’s policy on tardiness. 1st- warning 2nd- call parent 3rd- 30 min. detention. 4th- 1 hour detention 5th- One day In team suspension 6th- office referral.

Page 29: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Absent/Make up workIf you know you will be absent, it is your

responsibility to turn in your work beforehand and find out what you will miss.

If you are absent unexpectedly, please see me before or after school to find out what you missed. Ask someone in your class for the journal assignment and complete this on your own.

If you miss a performance, you will have to reschedule.

Turning in assignments

Page 31: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

On TimeFind your class tray and turn it in to that tray.

Pretty easy!If it’s a homework assignment, you will turn it in at

the beginning of class after getting your journal. If it’s an in class assignment, turn it in as you

finish it.

Page 32: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Late WorkFind the late work tray and turn it in there. If you turn it into your class tray, I will know if it’s

late and more points will be taken off. For each day the assignment is late, it is 10 points

off.

Page 33: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Missing and IncompletesI will update the gradebook on a fairly regular

basis. If you see that you have a zero, and you believe

you turned it in, come talk to me before or after class or school.

If you didn’t turn in an assignment, it will be a zero until I receive it from you.

Page 34: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

I finished my work. Awesome! You have a couple of options.

Check out a play and read it. You will need to sign the play check out binder.

Read a fiction book.Write a story- ask for paper if you need it.

You may NOT talk to your neighbor- even if you have both finished.

Page 35: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Extra CreditI will give extra credit on a case by case basis. You must come ask me for it. It will include something from the low assignment

you are wanting to make up for, plus extra work at my discretion.

Not everyone will get the same assignment!

Listening to announcementsThis requires absolute silence. Anyone talking during announcements will receive

a discipline mark.

Page 40: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

VisitorsIf a visitor enters the room, class should continue

as if they were not there. On very rare occasions I will introduce the person.

If that happens, your response is to say “hello” and their name. We will then continue class as normal.

Page 41: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.

Organizing notebooksYou are required to keep a binder in this class for

note taking. You need at least 5 dividers for each six weeks. Each six weeks will include a binder check grade. I

will see if your binder is there and organized. This means it has no loose papers.Dividers are present and being used. Should be an easy 100!

Page 44: Theatre Procedures To help us all have the best experience possible.
