About Rubber Ear Productions
Triple award-winning theatre company Rubber Ear Productions have toured the UK and abroad for over 12 years and are winners of the prestigious Edinburgh Fringe First Award.
Prior to Spare Ribs they have toured with Check Your Coupon, Sex, Chips and
Ouzo, The Devil Wears Primark and Death Of A Playboy.
The critically-acclaimed Sex, Chips and Ouzo is currently being transferred to
the big screen following its sensational success in the UK and overseas.
Writer and star of the play, Kathleen Ruddy is working in collaboration with
New York and Los Angeles Film Festival award winner David Goodall and
filming on location in Cyprus and Glasgow. The play has been re-written by
Ruddy to adapt to film but remains as true as possible to the original script
and characters.
Last year’s tour of Death Of A Playboy in Cyprus was a resounding success
and a great hit with audiences island-wide, with many of the ancient
amphitheatres filled to sell-out capacity audiences.
Spare Ribs There’s something about your first cut
ike her prime sausages, Rita O'Hagan is full of mince, loaded with alcohol and
past her sell-by-date.
Struggling to keep their heads above water during the horsemeat crisis,
pensioners Rita and Nancy plot revenge on Rita's estranged butcher husband, Frank,
who ran off with the bacon-slicer and Rita's award-winning recipe.
Along with local, pregnant teenager Maggie, they decide to put the only women-run
Irish butchers back on the prime cuts map and reclaim the coveted 'Best National
Sausage' trophy.
If only Rita can stop drowning her sorrows long enough to remember what she put
in her original recipe, then maybe the trio can figure a way out.
But fortune throws them a lifeline via a misprint in their local rag that takes matters
out of their hands as they use their feminine guile to lure in a different kind of
customer.
Join Rita, Maggie and Nancy, three 'spare ribs' as they embark on a feel-good,
comedic journey of love, sex and sausage.
Spare Ribs. There's something about your first cut.

About The Devil Wears Primark
Award-winning Scottish playwright Kathleen Ruddy is currently touring her latest production The Devil
Wears Primark in amphitheatres around the island; if you don’t want to miss the rare opportunity for a
picnic-theatre comedy evening, book your tickets now to avoid disappointment, as there are only a few
shows left!
Following the renowned success of Sex, Chips and Ouzo, which sold-out in Cyprus last year, The Devil Wears
Primark pivots around the self-centered Athenoulla Georgiou (Ruddy), a sex-advice radio show host, eagerly
awaiting an MBE award from the Queen. Her narcoleptic husband, played by Richard Didonian, who
repeatedly announces that ‘the husband should wear the pants in the family!’, lives under the illusion that
his wife is unaware of his cross-dressing fetish. Throw in a fat, unloved daughter who communicates through
hand-puppets, and a ‘clown’ son who brings home his Turkish fire-dancing girlfriend to meet the Cypriot
parents, and you’ve got a recipe for a night of laughs.
In fact, audiences roared with laughter and left the theatre quoting the lines to each other in chuckles. And
the jokes were not the only thing that impressed. The actors (all professional, with incredibly notable
resumes) supported Ruddy well, but it is unquestionable that the show’s creator stole the limelight. Ruddy
has impeccable comic-timing, and is one of those rare actresses that steps onto a stage and just owns it.
Eleni Cosma
Cyprus Mail, Wednesday 19th September 2012
As with all of Ruddy’s previous award-winning plays – ‘Sex, Chips and Ouzo’, ‘Check Your Coupon’ and
‘Glasgow Hard Tickets’, the dialogue bristles with inventiveness and sharp humour, the action is
unpredictable and the plot twists and turns in a maze of surprises.’
Athena Karsera
The Cyprus Weekly, September 7th 2012
Audiences have become accustomed to Ruddy’s clever comedy style and expect to come away laughing. She
has also built a reputation for strong one-liners and a unique, sometimes scathing and eye-wateringly honest
appraisal of human behaviour.

Sunday Mail, May 19th 2013
This comedy really was a laugh a minute, with an exceptional performance from Ruddy, whose timing and
full embrace of her character, coupled with the comic genius of the rest of the cast was reminiscent of ‘My
Big Fat Greek Wedding’.
Daxi Magazine, November 2012
