Art ScholarshipsCornell College offers art awards to students with significant promise in the field of art.
George F. Buzza Awards are valued at $5,000 per year. Thesescholarships are automatically renewed as long as a student maintains a cumulative 2.75 GPA at CornellCollege.
Cornell College Art Awards are valued at $2,500 per year.Acceptance and renewal require that a student remain in goodstanding with the college.
To become a candidate for art scholarships:
• Submit the Art Scholarship Application and a portfoliowith 5-15 pieces. Slides are encouraged, with emphasison the best quality possible.
• Submit a sketchbook (optional).
Portfolios are reviewed on a monthly basis, from Octoberthrough March.
Theatre ScholarshipsCornell College offers theatre scholarships and awards tostudents with a background or high interest in dramaticperformance and production.
William Fletcher King (WFK) Theatre Scholarships are valued at $20,000 annually. Acceptance and renewal of thescholarship requires that a student a) maintain a minimumcumulative 3.00 GPA, b) audition for each main-stage production, c) accept a production assignment for each main-stage production, and d) contribute at least three hours of service in the theatre department per week.
Trustee Theatre Scholarships are valued at $15,000 per year and have the same renewal requirements as the WFKScholarships.
Cornell College Theatre Awards are valued at $2,500 and$5,000 for students with a background or high interest in dramatic performance and production. These awards areautomatically renewed as long as the student remains in goodacademic standing with the college.
Audition information
Actors — Monologues are preferred to scenes; include twopieces contrasting in style; combined length of both piecesshould not exceed three minutes. Material, if developed fromspeech competition, should be dramatic in nature (taken fromplays as opposed to fiction or poetry, and definitely not publicaddress, persuasive, after-dinner speaking, orimpromptu/extemp events). Memorization is required.Auditioners will also be interviewed. If the applicant is also a

We welcome your interest in the fine arts at Cornell College. Excellence and meaningful performance opportunities in thefine arts are longstanding traditions at Cornell. Our faculty are active artists as well as outstanding teachers. Underscoringthe value placed on the fine arts, the college has recently invested $16.3 million in its performance and classroom facilities.
While all students are encouraged to participate in the fine arts at Cornell, students with special talents and interests arerecognized each year through scholarships and awards in art, music, and theatre. Scholarships and awards in the fine artsrange in value from $2,500 to $20,000 per year. Awards with a value of up to $5,000 per year may be combined withanother Cornell scholarship (not in the fine arts) for which a student may be selected. Non-majors as well as student’splanning to major in one of the fine arts are encouraged to apply for a scholarship, all of which are renewable throughoutthe student’s four-year degree plan at Cornell.

enrolled in a music performance seminar, and d) remain ingood academic standing with the college.
To become a candidate for music scholarships:

• Submit the Music Scholarship Application with your music selection.
• Submit a resumé of your musical honors and activities.
• Perform a live audition (strongly recommended).
Audition information
The following repertoire suggestions provide a guide to theselection of literature for your audition. It is important to selectmusic that displays your talents, and you are encouraged to discuss your selections with your instructor. Sight-reading andscales are not required.
Seven minutes are allotted for an audition. Though you may be asked to stop at the end of the allotted time, this will notjeopardize your opportunity for a scholarship. You also have theoption of auditioning in a second medium, and an additionaltime of five minutes will be scheduled later in the day. Theaudition judges are members of the Cornell music faculty.
Piano — Two works from: a composition from the Baroqueera; a composition or first movement of a sonata from theClassical or Romantic period; a composition from the 20thcentury.
Voice — Memorization is required. Performance in the originallanguage is optional. Popular songs are not recommended; however, repertoire from the musical theater is acceptable. Twoworks from: Old English songs; art songs, in contrasting styles,from Italian, German, or French repertoire; a contemporaryBritish or American art song.
String Instrument (including classical guitar) — Two works chosen from: a composition from the Baroque era; acomposition or first movement of a sonata from the Classical or Romantic period; a composition from the 20th century.
Wind Instrument — Transcriptions, when appropriate to themedium, are acceptable. Two works from: a concerto, sonata, orsuite from the Baroque or Classical period; a concerto, sonata,or suite from the Romantic or Contemporary period.
Percussion — Two works in contrasting styles.
Jazz — One or two works which display your improvisatoryskills. Cornell will provide a backup rhythm section if requestedin advance. Participants in this category may be asked to sight-read.
In the case that a student cannot perform a live audition, anaudition by tape (audio or video) will be accepted. The CornellCollege Office of Admission must receive the tape with yourapplication materials.

Designers/Technicians — The faculty will interview studentsabout technical theatre background; this will be the primary evaluation. However, students with any type of portfolioincluding production photos or slides, technical drawings, scenic or costume renderings, light plots, stage-managementprompt scripts, and/or photographic depictions of scenic models are encouraged to present such materials at the interview. The lack of a portfolio will not be held against anyapplicant.
Directors/Writers/Dramaturges — The faculty will interviewstudents about their interest in directing, theatrical writing, ortheatrical research; this will be the primary means of evaluation.Students, however, are encouraged to present any research orpreparation materials they may have created and, in the case ofwriters and dramaturges, a writing sample (dramatic writingfrom aspiring playwrights and expository writing fromdramaturges).

• Submit an Application for Admission to Cornell College. • Submit the Theatre Scholarship Application.• Submit a statement of interest telling us what your theatre
interest is and what you expect of a Cornell theatre education.
• Submit a letter of recommendation from a director, technical director, or teacher.
