Welcome to New Covenant! We believe God is good all the time and we gather on Sundays to celebrate His goodness. We are really glad you have decided to join us today!

If you are new to New Covenant be sure to visit our Welcome Centre in the lobby to receive a special gift and a brochure designed to answer some of the questions you are probably asking and to help you get the most out of your first few visits.

This handout is our monthly communications brochure and is designed to make you aware of everything that is happening at NC. Feel free to participate in as much or as little as you are ready for.

Our hope is that as you take the next step into the New Covenant community and get more involved, you will begin to see that NC is more than just a Sunday Morning celebration; it is a family of everyday people following Jesus together to bring hope and change to the world - one life at a time.

Our Purpose:Celebrating God’s goodness!

Our Mission:Helping one another to Encounter God, be Equipped by His Word, and Empowered by His Spirit to live a life that celebrates God.

Finish Last to Finish FirstJesus has a way of turning things on their heads. That is certainly true when it comes to seeking a promotion.

In our culture we are encouraged to fight and claw our way to the top. The ambitious step over and on whatever and whoever gets in their way in order to get to the top fastest and first.

However, Jesus tells us that the way of selfishness and self-promotion is not the best route to the top. Matthew 20:16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.” In v.26-28 Jesus continues, “Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

If you want to be number one follow Jesus’ example and give your life to others; seek to serve rather than to be served. It’s counter-intuitive but Philippians 2:4-11 challenges us to live this way and uses Jesus’ life as an example of how it works. It outlines how much Jesus gave up to serve us and how in the end God promoted Him and gave Him the name above all other names (v.9).

I believe God wants us to be people of influence so we can bring the Good News to as many as possible. Through promotion our circle of influence expands and increases. In February, we will be doing a series of messages called ‘Level Up!’. This series will focus on the type of person God promotes and how we can use promotion to see the name that is above all other names lifted high and hear every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord (Phil. 2:11).

12 Keys to a More Powerful Prayer Life by Rick Warren (www.pastors.com)

1. The principle of ILLUMINATION.Luke 3:21-22 says, “When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are My Son whom I love. With You I am well pleased.” The setting here was Jesus’ baptism and this is the first recorded example of Jesus praying, and we see in the book of Luke three results of His praying.

Heaven opened up.The Holy Spirit came down. The Father spoke.

These are three results when we make contact with God in our prayers. Symbolically, heaven opens up and we receive God’s blessing. The Holy Spirit fills our lives afresh. And the Father speaks to us. If you’d like to know the Spirit’s power in your life, if you’d like God to speak to you, you must practice the prayer life of Jesus.

2. The principle of ISOLATION.Luke 5:16 says, “Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” “Often” means it was His habit. He did it in places where He was all by Himself. I believe this is absolutely essential. We need to spend time alone with God every day. Jesus returned again and again to a lonely place. Find that place where you can

get alone with God, where you can be isolated and pray aloud and let God speak to you.

3. The principle of CONCENTRATION.Luke 6:12 says, “In those days Jesus went out on the mountainside to pray and He spent the night praying to God.” Notice it says, “He spent the night.” Some of the greatest lessons of my prayer life have been nights that I have spent in prayer. My decision to marry my wife was made in a prayer meeting all night with one other person. Sometimes when I pray it takes just a few minutes for me to get my thoughts collected. Sometimes it takes a long time for me to even get in the mood. I’ve found that it’s important to spend extended blocks of time with God so that you can concentrate on what He wants you to do and His will for your life.

4. The principle of INSULATION.The Bible says, “Once when Jesus was praying in private, the disciples were with Him.” Notice that the disciples were with him but He still found time for personal prayer. This is an important principle because there’s not always time to get alone by yourself. There are times when you can’t be isolated. I think of this as kind of an incubator verse. Babies can be in the middle of a busy hospital, but they can be incubated in a situation that protects them from the hustle and bustle around them. Sometimes I find as a pastor I just can’t get alone, but I can have an attitude of isolation or insulation and I can be silent even in the middle of a traffic jam. My prayer can overcome the interruptions when I put myself in an attitude of insulation.

Continued next month.

Join missionary and film producer Neil Broere for an evening of powerful worship and incredible testimony of the miraculous things God is doing among the Muslim people of the Middle East.

Neil and Lindsey Broere, along with their four children, are missionaries to the Middle East. While living in northern Iraq in 2013, they saw firsthand the wide open door for the Gospel in the Middle East. A land flooded with refugees, and marked by generations of war, the Broeres saw Iraqi, Syrian, Kurdish, Turkish, and Iranian Muslims experience the power of God to heal both the spirit and the body.
