The smallest actions can have drastic effects on future events; this is the “Butterfly Effect.”

A choice you make can define your future.

The small difference it takes Lola to go down the stairs in each loop greatly affected the events that transpired later.

Ex. When she was scared by the dog, she was slowed down causing her father’s conversation with his mistress to escalate before her interruption.

Ex. Lola’s actions during the run drastically changed the futures of the people around her. The old lady she bumps into, for example, would have receiveddifferent future lives based on whether Lola bumped into her or not.

There is no such as thing as fate; man is the master of his own future.

We can change what happens to us and our futures with our decisions and choices.

Lola, through supernatural means or otherwise, is able to subvert her “fate” and make changes that affect her future.

Ex. In the first and second run, her miniscule mistakes caused either her boyfriend or herself to die. In the third run however, she was able to make decisions that created an acceptable outcome.

Ex. When she is gambling, she does not bend to the rules of fate. She is able to win twice in a row, despite the astronomically low chance of such an occurrence.

Ashvinder: “I agree with the first theme. I believe any split second decision can create a huge difference and possibly influence the world around us.”

Derek: “I definitely agree with Ryan. I think that although we do have some control over our futures, there are many things in life that are beyond our control or influence.”

Ryan: “I disagree with the second theme, I think the opposite is true, as her fate is decided by what transpires on the stairs.”
