Theology: Knowing, Loving, and Obeying the Revealed God

The word “theology” comes from two Greek words that combined mean “the study of God.” Christian theology is simply an attempt to understand God as He is revealed in the Bible. No theology will ever fully explain God and His ways because God is infinitely and eternally higher than we are. Therefore, any attempt to describe Him will fall short. However, God does want us to know Him insofar as we are able, and theology is the art and science of knowing what we can know and understand about God in an organized and understandable manner.

Some people try to avoid theology because they believe it is divisive. Properly understood, though, theology is uniting. Proper, biblical theology is a good thing; it is the teaching of God's Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Theological study is the antidote of your preconception or bias. It tests and

survey the level of your Bible knowledge.

To study theology is to get to know God in order that we may glorify Him through

our love and obedience. Notice the progression here: we must get to know Him before we can love Him, and we

must love Him before we can desire to obey and serve Him.

BiasWhat is “bias?”

The Millennium• Its Bible References: Revelation 20:1-7And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

The Millennium• Its Bible References• Its Nature• Its Everyday Life:

Two Groups of people—Group 1, the survivors of the tribulation and Group 2, the resurrected saints of both O.T. & N.T. with glorious physical bodies.

Jesus will be personally present on earth ruling from Jerusalem as King. All nations will flood there to pay homage to the King.

People who are in their natural bodies will live extended life spans. During this time someone who dies at the age of 100 will be thought to have suffered an untimely death.

Not all the people born during the Millennium will be disciples. People can get sick during the Millennium since sin & death will

still be present, disease will be present, too. But Jesus will heal all who come to Him.

Everything will revolve around the King Jesus.
