Page 5: Theory meaning

The small boat over the big whale is the focus of the picture, luring the reader of the poster to sea what the image shows such as darkness and openness form the pure mass of the see. In the image the see is very dark making us think that something bad will happen because death or bad thing normally associate to the black sea.

All the names of the main actors in the movie are displayed across the top of the poster, this is could interest some people because the movie could have one of there favorite actors in it and influence them to watch the movie.

The slightly faint image of a whale beneath the sea may influence some people because they might be intrigued by the massive size of the whale.

The image on the poster is shot from a birds eye view, this has been don’t to try show us the actual size of the whale compared to there boat, the whale is made to look very large because the sea is massive and for the whale to be the heart of the sea then it has to be very big as shown in the poster.

The colour used in the poster is most blue or green colours this is to represent the colours of the sea, except for the small boat which a brown colour.

The image show mostly sea, this shows me that in the film will be mainly sea based otherwise they will have included a more detailed poster instead of just and image of a massive whale and a boat.

Page 6: Theory meaning

The quote at the top of the poster “earth is a memory worth fighting for”. This tell us that the movie may involve fighting to protect the earth from something, this is because the word “fight” gives me a sense of war.

On the poster we can see dark buildings and a water fall running for near to the top of the empire states building showing me that something has happened to the world, this is because it is very unusual for a waterfall to be next to this building giving us the thought that something bad has happened to the world.

The producers of this poster have included the name of the main actor “tom Cruise”, they have done this because tom cruises a very goo and well know actor having collected a load of Oscars.

The positioning of the actor low down and the shot of the picture is a wide shot, the producers have done this to emphasize the actual size of the waterfall.

We can tell that the film is very futuristic, this is because next to the actor there is to be what looks like a very advanced space ship, which I think is used by the actor “Tom Cruise” to go around the destroyed planet.

The lighting and the colour in the poster is mostly dark lighting and colour towards the bottom of the poster, however towards the top of the poster at the sky the colours get lighter . This show me that there is some happy ending or happy element in the movie.

The image which the photo has been taken makes me think that the batman has power over the city, this is because the angle in which the image has been taken is a “wide angle” which makes it look like the batman is over looking the city in control f everything.

The costume which the character is wearing look very dark and camouflage to darkness. The protection on the outfit looks very hard to protect him from any of his memories.

The poster is mostly dark colours such as grey/black, however the batman logo is on fire in a bright colour red, this intrigues the person look at the poste5r to automatically recognizing which film the poster is for.

The location for poster looks to be a city, over covered with cloud and darkness, this helps the main character to stay hidden and use the darkness as an advantage.

The character on the poster in standing in an aggressive manor showing me that the film will include many action scene, the use of flames in the batman logo also makes me think this.

All the names of the main actors in the movie are displayed across the top of the poster, this is could interest some people because the movie could have one of there favorite actors in it and influence them to watch the movie.

Soundtrack

• Clip 1– Clip 1 sounds like it has been take from a

build up in a intense moment in a horror movie, I know this because loud orchestra music in which the volume increases slightly though out the build to the big scare.

• Clip 2– Clip 2 sounds like it has been taken off the

introduction to a children animated movie. I know this because the happy charm bell music I used at the beginning of many children's animated or Christmas movies.

Scary Mary

• The trailer has been made using very edgy, and tense music, this builds up the tension in the trailer to make it seem very scary. The trailer also includes very dark scenes. I think that this this trailer shows scary Mary as a horror movie because throughout the trailer there is paranormal activity making the trailer seem frightening to the person watching it.

Shining

• The shinning has been made to be a romantic comedy, this has been done in the trailer by editing out all of the scary or horror like clips. Also the music and narrators sound happy, calm and enthusiastic. The lighting used in the trailer is mainly bright representing happiness and romance. The way that the trailer has been made showing the mother and child becoming closer and closer towards the man.

Iconography- Western• The main features from a western movie would be

conventions such as old weaponry, wooden houses, horses, cowboy hats, dust desert, cowboy outfits and Indians

• In most western movies we expect to see certain things for the setting such asb wooden buildings such as bars, hotels o farm buildings. Another prop expectation we get from western movie is horses, revolver guns, cowboy hats. The type of characters we expect to see in western movies or productions are either really native Texas cowboys or Indians. All the above are things we would normally expect to see in a western production or film.

Some props we would expect to find in a sci-fi movie are futuristic weaponry, space ships, futuristic technology. Clip Analysis• costume – Darth Vader’s outfit is completing black representing evil power to to us, This is because red

and dark colours are usually represented as death or power.• Dialogue – the dialogue in the clip was very vague, this is because the produces wanted the action to be

the main part of the scene and did this by only including small amounts of dialogue. This made the action more interesting and exciting to the watcher.

• Props – the props used in the clip such as light sabers, represent to us power. This I because we look up to people with light sabers because there are better than everyone else like superhero's are to humans, so this make the characters show a lot more power than normal people.

• Lighting – the lightening used in the scene is dark, this is done to show power over the Jedi by Darth Vader because his costume is fully black so his power is fuelled by the darkness.

• Camerawork – the angles in which the cameras have been shot are normally quite short framed and not wide angled, this is done to make the action and fighting more intense and intriguing for the watcher.

• Music – the music used in the clip is very loud orchestra music, this type of music is normally used for action scenes in films because its is good for building up the tension and is also very good for showing power to the person winning the fight.

• Colour – the colour used by the producer of the clip are very dark, for the background. The colours used for the bad guys and good guys represent to us the scene of the narrative steer for good vs evil. So the good characters use more faint and friendly colours (blue & green) unlike the bad guys who use more intimidating colours (black & red) , this makes me think that the more intimidating colours show more power.
