There are 5 million South African children between 0 – 4 years.
4.5 million have no access to early
childhood care facilities
The majority live in dysfunctional communities
Poor nutrition and neglect are rife
Unless children between 0 – 5 years
receive• adequate nutrition
• intellectual stimulation
they suffer permanentphysical and intellectual impairment
The result
South African children start school handicapped by learning delays
These compound as they move through the system
Research has shown that children who take part in pre-school programmes are more
likely to • succeed academically
•complete high school and attend college/university

MISSION
Our Work
Support the Board ofASHA PRE-SCHOOL ASSOCIATION which runs 40 formal pre-schools
for up to 5 000 children
We have worked with over 200 women to upgrade their facilities.Once they meet minimum standards they can receive financial support from the government

This is an economic issue as much as it is an education issue
