Introduction

The following slides compare the FOV and image quality of several LightPath BD6™ thermal imaging lens assemblies on a 640x480 12µm pixel detector (TWV640 courtesy of BAE Systems – Fairchild Imaging).

The first slide shows visible images of two outdoor scenes for reference. Subsequent slides shows thermal images of the same scenes, with each successive slide showing the effect of increasing the lens focal length while maintaining the same detector size, thus affecting DRI.

The final slides show how image processing may be used to further balance the aesthetic quality of images along with DRI objectives by adjusting detector/software settings for gain, contrast, sharpening, etc.
