My thesis is to create an original brand that creates home decor and accessories for kids at heart who enjoy playful aesthetics.

Primarily, the target audience would be young adults to adults who are kids at heart or like a playful aesthetic, but there really is no age limit. The major charactersitics of the brand are to be bold/graphic and playful. There are underlying themes of dark humor and oddities. This will be visually shown through character design, pattern, and type. The line ranges from accessories, such as bags and socks, to home décor such as lighting and pillows.

It is relevant because it is difficult to find solid brands/places that carry child-like, fun items that are intended for adults. There are many kid stores but small sizing shows its true intentions. This brand is supposed to show that taking things lightly, being an oddball, or having a playful aesthetic as a grown-up is perfectly okay.

STATEMENT

THE TONEIn the end, the apperance should fit into these images. These are all bold, graphic, tastefully colorful and mostimportantly, playful.

I will create the aesthetic using graphic design and illustration. This will beportrayed through elements of character design, pattern and type.

CHARACTER DESIGNI grabbed characters that were similar to my style. Mine tend to be graphic black and white, noodle-looking characters.

PATTERNI want these to be the fairly simple because complicated patterns tend to be too specific for audiences.

TYPEI want to incorporate type more into everything because everyone can relate to words. I will be hand-drawing type that fits the aesthetic of my thesis. These are someexamples of hand-drawn type, not necessarily the style I’m going for.

I have been brainstrorming different mini projects within my brand. One project is a print series of creatures with each representing different personalities. They are adventureous, shy, dreaming, free-spirited, confident, and content.

CHARACTER PRINTS

The second project is a throw series that relates with how people find comfort in nature and space. I’m planning on doing three different throws. Each one will be related to space, the forest, or the ocean.

PERSONAL THROWS

Plush Weapons - I will try out prototyping for the sword and axe, using patterns that I create as the material.

Pencil Bags - I want to make a few small bags with different fabric patterns/colors.

Wallpaper/Wall Decals - Might try this idea out and come up with either, patterns or illustrations/type for walls.
