‘Made in Leeds workshop’ showcase the fashion and textiles industry within the Yorkshire County.
The fashion industry is something that surrounds and explores a person’s individuality; Leeds is one of the most creative cities up North it has grown over the years where personalities are shown through their clothing in an imaginative manner
From designers to high street stores, vintage and charity shops, the Northerners are not afraid to experiment with colours and textures.
Walking around Leeds you are able to see the exciting brands and dress sense that are not always approached the city’s surface, as well as style’s competiveness with dress codes I find this inspiring and astonishing to see.
Leeds has been named the UK’s largest fair-trade city by the fair trade foundation this followed by a quote by Sarah Hoole ‘It is a fantastic move by Leeds,’
While photographing the people of Leeds I found that most people dress in a unique way enable to express their personality through the clothing as well as to fit in within a group i.e. the posh, the punks and the wannabees.
With this series of photographs I wanted to show that Northerners are very much in their comfort zone when it comes to fashion, experimenting has become more recognized in peoples lives especially when buying a new garment and adding their touch of style.
Being able to capture portraits of each individual has helped me connect even more, I am more aware of why they dress in a certain way and what fashion means to them. Even when using key items of clothing or jewellery statement Northerners make a statement that represents their culture ways of the North and the proudness. Artists and designers, the uniqueness of the Northern people has always surrounded me and the competiveness of dress sense is what influenced me to do this project. The braveness of Northerners has had one of the biggest impacts in my way of being creative in my own dress sense and my photography
