Thiagarajan Treasurer From the Chair – Message from Patron… Dear Alumni, I am very happy to communicate through this Alumni Newsletter! At the outset, I am very pleased to state that our institution has been bestowed with many prestigious awards. The most prestigious AICTE – CII Best Industry Linked Institute Awards were bagged by our institution for the second term during 2015. This time we have been conferred with three awards for the Electrical Engineering, Textile Technology and Computer engineering disciplines. I express my hearty congratulations to all the Head of Departments, faculty, staff, students and all the stakeholders who have rendered their best efforts to receive these awards. Also, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate Ms.N.I.Maheshwari, faculty of Electrical & Electronics Engineering for her contributions to be the winner of the Best Women Engineer Award and Mr.B.Munusamy, faculty of Textile Technology for his contribution to be the winner of Best Young Engineer Award 2015 conferred by the Institution of Engineers (India), Salem Local Chapter. I wish them for success in their future endeavors. Our students also rightly prove their potential by grabbing many awards and prizes at National and State level. Our students have won prizes at the National level Paper presentation in both technical and general sessions at the 23nd IEI Annual Students` Convention at Dharwad. I congratulate all the prize winners and students for their enthusiastic participation and expect many more awards and laurels in the near future. The National Level Technical Symposium Thiagfest and Project Expo2k16, the two grand gala events were held on 3&4 January 2016 in association with the Students’ Chapters of Institution of Engineers(I) and the ISTE. I appreciate all the faculty and students for making it a grand success. Many innovative steps are being taken to facilitate the development of the polytechnic in all spheres. To mention a few: Implementation of Blackboard for assignments and conducting online tests for all programmes and Moodle software for enhancing the teaching learning process and student centered learning, an innovative and best educational practice. Introduction of Life and Employability courses to enhance the placement potential of the students. As a result of modern and innovative teaching methodologies, in addition to the continuous assessment and monitoring, our students have been producing excellent results in examinations and getting placed in reputed organizations with high perks. This year, we have achieved awesome placement of 170% for 400 students with 666 job offers including 189 Double offers, 60 Triple offers, 1 six offer and 2 overseas offers in more than 60 reputed organisations with an annual salary pack ranging from 1.50 lakhs to 3.50 lakhs. I express my heartfelt congratulations to all the students, Placement Officer, Placement co-ordinators and faculty members for your good efforts in achieving this wonderful feat. Now, I invite all the alumni to visit the alma mater, make use of the facilities, offer suggestions for further development and disseminate the features of this institution to the industrial world. The overwhelming response for the Annual General Body Meeting of Alumni Association held on 20 Feb 2016 was greatly appreciated by the management. The endowment funds created reveals the gratitude and concern that the Alumni have towards their Alma Mater. In recognition of the involvement of Alumni, we have honoured nine elite alumni from each discipline during the 59h Annual Day celebrations of our college on 16 March 2016. General body meeting
The Annual General Body meeting of the Alumni Association was
held on 20th Feb 2016.
Our Principal Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Mr.D.Arulselvan, HoD/PDCA and
visited Dudley College, UK for a two week Training programme
under AICTE –UKIERI collaboration of developing community
colleges during February 2016. This programme was intended to
study the best practices adopted in Dudley College to enhance the
teaching learning process in our institution. Our Principal conveyed
his best wishes for the successful conduct of the meeting and
stated the commendable and unique services of Chairman
Sri.C.Valliappa in the development of Thiagarajar Polytechnic
College during the past six decades. He expressed his gratitude for
the active involvement of Alumni and Industrial personnel in
obtaining the NBA Accreditation for the second term of five years
from March 2012. He conveyed that the NBA Team experts were
amazed on the emotional attachment of Alumni with the
development of the institution. Our Principal, being an
outstanding Alumni of TPT, highlighted the achievements of the
institution and acclaimed that everyone should feel proud of being
TPT'ian. On behalf of self and Alumni Association, Dr.V.Karthikeyan,
Principal & Patron expressed sincere thanks to the Chairman and
Members of the Management for their continued support in all the
endeavors. On behalf Principal, the President Mr.S.Loganathan of Alumni
Association highlighted the achievements of our Polytechnic during
2010 – 2016 and stated that every alumni member should feel
proud for being a student of TPT. A few of the achievements are:
The Best Polytechnic College Award conferred during 2010
by Government of Tamilnadu with cash prize of Rs.1 lakh
received by Dr.V.Karthikeyan, Principal, which was created as
endowment fund in the name of “Best Polytechnic Award”.
Best ISTE Chapter Chairman Award to the Principal
Dr.V.Karthikeyan for 3rd year consecutively.
Accreditation for five programmes such as Civil, Mech, EEE,
Prodn, Textile by the National Board of Accreditation, New
Delhi for the second term of five years.
IE(I) National Level Best Student Chapter Award received by
our beloved Principal Dr.V.Karthikeyan
State Level NSS Awards for the institution, Programme
Officers and Volunteers.

In addition, 40 Technical Seminars were arranged for students where renowned Industrialists and technocrats presented their lectures. An exclusive Training and Placement cell is functioning in the institution with a full time Placement officer guided by Mr.R.Chandarsekaran, HoD/Textile Technology. In order to improve the effectiveness of Placement, this year, Audit courses (Life and Employability courses) were introduced to the final year students. These courses comprise communication skills. Three renowned eminent Alumni from Civil Engineering, Textile Technology and Computer Technology were invited and they highlighted their views and events during their studies in the polytechnic college.

Graduation day was celebrated on 3rd July 2016 for the first time in our polytechnic college. 720 diploma graduates were awarded Diplomas in all programmes. A testimonial Graduation file was contributed by the Alumni Association in the graduation day celebrations.

70th Independence Day was celebrated in a grand manner in our polytechnic college. Special programmes like Skit, Singing, Essay Writing in English and Tamil, Drawing and painting competitions were conducted in remembrance of Patriotic freedom fighters. The winners were awarded with certificates and prizes on 15 August 2016 in the Independence Day celebrations. A Special candle light march and a Rally were conducted towards Junction. Principal, faculty members, NCC officer, NSS Officers and all the NCC, NSS and the Student office bearers participated in these programmes
