Coating Thickness Gauge Elcometer Inc. Rochester Hills, Mich.

Elcometer has announced a new specification for its very successful Model 345 line of coating thick- ness gauges. The new specification is a combined gauge that can read off both ferrous and nonferrous substrates without having to change probes. The gauge features both an automatic mode and a man- ual switching mode. In either mode the traditional Elcometer accuracy, durability, reliability, repeatability, and speed have been maintained.

Combination Coating Thickness Gauge DeFelsko Corp. Ogdensburg, N. Y

The PosiTector 6000-FN is the only combination coating thick- ness gauge with instant and auto- matic ferrous/nonferrous sub- strate selection in a single probe-virtually eliminating guesswork and operator error. Features include autocalibration; f 1% accuracy; automatic temper- ature compensation; instability warning indicator; factory-reset switch; rugged housing unaf- fected by acids, solvents, etc.; and optional averaging and memory capabilities. Separate probe mod- els are also available.

Wireless Coating Thickness Testers Kett US Villa Park, Calif.

Kett introduces their LZ-200W and LZ-330W Wireless Coating Thick- ness Testers for the plating, powder coating, and surface finishing indus- tries. Measurements can be made on the production line and instantly relayed to the controller unit. The wireless probes also allow the operator to test inconvenient measurement points, sending the signal to a belt- carried controller, without needing to view the display or the measurement location. Both Kett models are affordable, durable, accurate to within +O.Ol mil (0.3 pm), feature built-in statistical analysis, high/low alarms, and nonvolatile memory that can store up to 1,500 measurement readings and eight calibrations. The model LZ-200W also includes an integrated printer.

Digital Coating Thickness Gauge Electroma tic Equipment Co. Inc. Cedarhurst, N. Y

The new CheckmLine Model DCF-900 and DCN-900 Digital Coating Thickness Gauges accu- rately measure the thickness of paint, coatings, plating, etc. on fer- rous metals (DCF) or on nonfer- rous metals (DCN). The measuring range is 0.1 to 40.0 mils (1 to 999 microns). Each probe is computer- calibrated at the time of manufac- ture resulting in an accuracy of up to 0.1 mil(1 micron). The DCF and DCN feature a rugged miniature probe at the end of a 28-in. (71-cm) cable, which permits easy access to hard-to-reach locations. They can measure coatings on substrates as thin as 0.5 mil (10 microns). Other features include easy-to-use 4-key operation, switch-selectable metric or English units, and long-lasting calibration.

Digital Thickness Testing System Thickness Monitor Kocour Co. Maxtek Inc. Chicago Torrance, Calif.

The Kocour Co. has introduced the Model 6000 Thick- ness Testing System, which is easily operated by follow- ing the simple steps outlined in the instructions. Just follow the instructions and 60 seconds later (on average) the results are displayed on the liquid crystal display. Test results are 98% accurate with proper calibration. The Kocour 6000 Digital Thickness Tester utilizes the coulo- metric principle. The microprocessor-based circuitry of- fers access to over 300 coating/substrate applications. The thickness tester measures almost all electrodeposited met- als on metallic or nonmetallic substrates. It can measure multiple coatings and give individual readings. It mea- cures plating thickness on wire and very thin coatings, such as decorative chromium and gold, then displays the readings to the millionths of an inch. The Model 6000 is also capable of measuring the electrochemical potential difference between duplex and triplex nickel layers (STEP) and also measures electroless nickel.

The PM-700 Series Monitors, which apply Quartz Crystal Microbalance @CM) technology to liquid plating, allow real- time, on-line monitoring of plating rate, and thickness buildup within a plating bath. A QCM sensor housed in a specially designed probe is placed in the bath. As material deposits on the sensor face the resonant frequency is depressed, which is accu- rately translated into a thickness and plating rate via the on- board microprocessor. The monitor supports both electroless and electrolytic plating and is sensitive to 1A (0.004 micro- inches). Several features addressing the specific needs of the liquid platers include low- and high-rate alarms, end-point no- tification, sample mode to extend monitoring times, and effi- ciency readout (electrolytic baths). Optional dual probes provide uninterrupted monitoring.

Coating Thickness Measurement Gauge Automation USA Westminster, Md.

The QuaNix 7500 Coating Thickness Gauge offers versatility and ease of use for virtually any application. One gauge can measure over both ferrous and nonferrous substrates by using either an integrated probe or an ex- tension cable for readings in hard-to-reach areas. The ferrous probe, nonferrous probe, extension cable, mem- ory, and software may all be purchased at once or sepa- rately when required.

Thickness and Composition Measurement Fischer Technology Windsor, Conn.

The Fischerscope X-Ray XUV System performs con- tact-free coating thickness measurement and coating alloy analysis quickly, easily, and accurately, while virtually eliminating the need for calibration standards. The XUV System features Fischer Thickness Management, PC- based operating software, which automates a wide variety of measurement and data evaluation functions. The use of this integrated software dramatically reduces the number of standards required for calibration; simplifies the measurement process; and saves the user time by al- lowing the user to pro- gram operating sequences for repetitive tasks. Mea- suring difficult dual, triple, and alloy coatings, includ- ing alloy composition measurement of ternary alloys, is now as easy as measuring single coatings.
