Letter from the MD

As the year draws to a close, here’s a brief update of key milestones for Pacific Life Re in 2018 and what you can expect from us in 2019.

Perhaps the most significant event was the conclusion of the year-long celebrations commemorating the 150th anniversary of our parent company, Pacific Life. On behalf of my team, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks for all your well-wishes and support in celebrating such a momentous occasion.

On the business front, we have been actively collaborating with new partners across the insurance value chain, all with the aim of strengthening our proposition to clients. We recently inked a partnership with the text mining unit of The University of Manchester in a collaboration that will further automate the new business

process, and with Hong Kong-based technology company, P9 in an exclusive arrangement which will aim to deliver improved customer engagement.

Closer to home, our technology company, UnderwriteMe, has been gaining steady momentum in Singapore. Watch this space for further news of insurers signing up to use UnderwriteMe in the near future.

We have an aggressive growth plan for our Asia Business Unit in the coming year, and in anticipation of that, we have been hiring actively and our team has grown by almost one quarter to ensure that we provide the highest levels of service to our clients. I’m pleased to share that we have recently moved from Shenton Way to Cecil Street, a much bigger office space to accommodate our growing business. Feel free to drop by and say hello if you’re in the area.

We’ve lots more planned for 2019, and we will be sharing more updates on our LinkedIn page as the year progresses.

On behalf of all at Pacific Life Re Asia, I want to thank you for your strong support over the past year. I would personally like to wish you a prosperous 2019 and an enjoyable festive period. I look forward to working with you during the year ahead.

To continue with the festivities commemorating the 150th anniversary of our parent company, Pacific Life, we were pleased to have recently hosted receptions in Singapore, Malaysia, and China, rounding off the year-long celebrations which included Thailand and Korea earlier this year. Thanks to those who took time off to attend the receptions and we look forward to your continuous support in the years ahead.

Pacific Life Re & UnderwriteMe collaborate with the National Centre for Text Mining

At Pacific Life Re, we are committed to making life and health insurance products simple

for consumers to buy. To support our commitment, we will be working with UnderwriteMe,

our technology company and the National Centre for Text Mining (NaCTeM) at the

University of Manchester, to develop a system that uses artificial intelligence and text

mining to process unstructured medical data, such as doctor reports on life and health

insurance applicants and claimants. To learn more, please click here.

Designing an interactive insurance customer journey with P9

We are always on the lookout for new ways to engage the modern-day consumer. To this

end, we have collaborated with Hong Kong-based tech company, P9 Ltd. This partnership

focuses on the development of an interactive insurance customer journey which provide

education of life’s risks, conveniently accessible solutions and simple fulfilment. On top

of that, customers will be able to personalise their experience and influence the nature of

generic and risk education information provided to them. Read more here.
